SERIOUSLY Confused about calorie burning.

I apologize if this doesn't go here but I was not entirely sure. Thanks for listening.
Does your body only burn calories while moving? If you are performing an INTENSE exercise (meaning your heart is pumping and your breathing is super heavy), but you're stopping and starting occasionally, am I wrong to assume you're burning during the few-second-at-a-time rest period so long as you can feel your heart pounding?
I'd like to know so I can appropriately log my exercises. @.@ Thanks so much...

Your body will burn calories even if you lay in bed all day.0

Your BMR (which you can calculate using Tools, BMR) is the rate as if you were laying around all day, then any exercise would be above and beyond that number. To get the best idea, get a Heart Rate Monitor.0

I was confused too, then I saw a nutritionist and a personal trainer. pretty much they told me the human body burns 2000 calories a day through your normal daily routine, so just cutting your calories helps you lose. As for excersize you burn the whole time your moving but you burn more calories when you speed your heart rate let it slow and then speed it up again ext. so to give you a direct answer yes you should log the whole time not just the time your heart is racing. Hope this helps0

Yes, you are still burning calories during your short breaks and you will continue to burn long after your workout if you are doing intense cardio or circuit training. Good stuff!0

your body uses calories constantly.
the more active you are the more calories your body uses.
everyones BMR is different. If i ate at 2000 cals a day i'd gain weight.
bmr is basal metabolic rate..what you need to intake to maintain your weight if you stayed in bed all day. your T.E.E. is your total energy expenditure..what your body needs to maintain its weight if you are active all day.
i am 5'2" and 120 lbs..i used the harris benedict equation not MFP to calculate my T.E.E. my BMR is 1300 and my T.E.E. (activity level) is 1800 cals a day to maintain my weight.
my activity level includes my job and my daily exercise routine. since i workout about the same every day it becomes apart of my T.E.E. as our bodies adapt and become very efficient to what we do it.0 -
Thank you thank you THANK YOU guys! I really appreciate the replies. It is so wonderful to know I have not been wrong to log the full time on my stopwatch during a jumproping session or what have you.0
