(Title should read NEW Jeans are too big!!! A solution which does not involve putting on fat)

Bought new three new pairs of jeans about a month ago just before I went on maintenance - and now they are too big!!! Seriously - they are 32' and I think right now I could get away with 30.

I think this is probably due to the fact I am still getting fitter (working up to a half marathon) and then I was ill this week which would have exasperated the matter.

Anyway - When I get back from this trip (Monday) I'm going to try one of the following (obviously I'll test on one pair at a time)...

I'm not sure I fancy the last method though :)

Ways to Shrink Jeans

Whether you've gone through a recent weight loss, or are trying to firm up a recent purchase, shrinking your jeans is a great way to adjust your favorite denims to your shape. There are several ways you can shrink jeans, as their cotton-based material is naturally prone to shrinkage under stress and high heat.

Hot Water Wash
The easiest way to shrink your jeans is to wash them in the washing machine using the hot water setting, and then putting them in the dryer on high heat. The warm temperature will cause the cotton in the jeans to shrink, and the high heat from the dryer will help accelerate this process. However, the only downside to this method is that it may take a few tries to get your jeans to shrink noticeably.

Boiling
Boiling works a little bit faster than just throwing your jeans in the washer. Simply boil a large pot of water, and then add the jeans once the pot really starts rolling. Keep the jeans in there for 20 to 30 minutes, and then throw them in the dryer (on high heat). This method will produce dramatic shrinkage in a short amount of time, but the actual level of shrink will vary depending on the style and wash of the jeans.

Hot Bath
The best way to shrink jeans to your size is probably the most uncomfortable. Put on your jeans, and then draw a bath of very hot water. Then sit in the hot water while wearing the jeans for about 5 minutes. Then wear the jeans around the house until dry. The jeans should now fit to your form. Note: this method can also be used to stretch jeans as well.

Thanks for the tips. At least it seems as though men have a bit more leeway in their jeans! I feel as though so much as two or three pounds either way can make my "perfectly fitting" jeans look either sloppy or painfully tight. Ugh.

Congratulations on making it to your goal!

i am ONLY buying my clothing at second hand stores, and garage sales till i get to my goal. Some of the ones i already got a month ago or so, already too big. Lucky for me, at the garage sales, i never pay more than a dollar for them. Good bye too big pants.

Washing in warm water and a HOT DRYER always shrinks my pants. I used to hang dry all of my pants, and now I don't have tooo!!
    Nice job on the maintenance!!

I use perfect fit buttons They're pretty cool its the same concept as an earring where it goes through the jeans and has a sturdy back to keep it in place. And as long as you put your shirt over that part of the pants or even a belt no one can tell. And its not permanent so you can move it wherever you want. The only downside is the back irritates my stomach and hurts sometimes but its better then having to buy a new pair of 60 doller jeans every other month

that's funny. I have had this issue quite a few times because i have have changed my goal often and each time thought I was safe to purchase nice new pants. I was happy at a 29 inch waist, then 28, then 27, now I'm a 26. UGH...who would have thought this would be a problem, but it is! I'm constantly annoyed by bagging/sagging jeans and it's all because of strength exercises (at least those recently...I haven't really lost weight in over a year)....the body seems to change as you focus on different areas.....

Love your ideas and may try some!!!

Definitely this and watch out the length will shrink too with those methods not just the waist

    VICTORY IS MINE

Did the hot wash and dry method - The jeans now fit perfectly.I guess they lost one to two inch's in length and round the waist.
Will try this on the other pair next time I wash them. The third (and cheapest) pair actually fit OK anyway.
