Hoping it works

Hi,

For the first time in my life I find myself actually dieting. I know lots of other folks go through this, but I haven't done it before. When I was younger and wanted to lose weight I just stopped eating. Totally unhealthy, but it worked.

Now, I'm suddenly in a size I've never worn, and I am ALWAYS hungry, so I know I need help before I blow up any more. I go to the gym, but the gym alone doesn't seem to be changing anything. I'm guessing its from what I'm eating, and I'm excited about the ease of the calorie tracker here. Since my kids are grown now I eat when I want, and whatever I want, and obviously not cooking nutritious meals for them anymore is taking a heck of a toll on me.

So, crossing my fingers, I'm going to start looking at calorie limits and hoping I can somehow lose this weight with that help. Of course I don't know how to lose the hunger... but I imagine I'll figure that out in time.

Welcome, this is a great place for support and MFP does all the work calculating everything. Just take the time to add the food. In fact, look up the food in MFP before eating. Hunger..... a lot of time we confuse thirst with hunger. You think you are hungry when you are really thirsty. Drink 8 water when you have eaten and you still think you are hungry. Also do not eat in front of tv as you do not pay attention to how much you are eating when you watch tv.

I started eating off dixie plates that are about 7 inches verses my real plates that are 10 inches.

Welcome! You can do it. Feel free to friend me and I will be glad to support you.

    Good Luck.
Remember you have to eat enough to not go into starvation mode. That will just make life harder later on.

I am totally in the same spot! Funny how we are all about nutrition and healthy cooking for the little ones, then BAM... do we do the same for ourselves? I found NOT.

Now with MFP I am learning to care for my health and nutrition also with recipes in smaller quantities.

MFP does make it sooo easy to track and be honest with yourself. You will love it!

Feel free to add me as a friend :)
