Okay, so today i went rollerblading. I am as begginer as beginner gets and there were times where I coasted but overall I was working to move. So I was out for about an hour, but decided to log 45 minutes due to the times where i was coasting along. I get 328 calories burned from doing this! Can this be right? Rollerblading is fun, and I don't feel like i'm burning into a sweat by doing it.

so can someone tell me why I burn so many calories doing this? is it because of all the core muscles used to stay up?

When I was about 14 all I would do was stay outside with my friends and roller blade I ate WHATEVER I wanted and I was in the best shape of my life. So I believe it must burn a lot. I love to roller blade its one of my favorite ways to exercise

it does burn alot. I have not done it without my HRM but as you are using your entire body and your legs (largest muscle group) it is probably very accurate!

I remember reading somewhere that ice skating burns a lot of calories so I suppose it would mean rollerblading does as well, especially if you get a good speed going, pushing with your legs (propelling your weight) and pumping your arms and keeping your core muscles tight to keep balanced.

I recently started skating on quads and I sweat more during this workout than any other, but I notice it less because it is fun. It is also the only workout that I have to carry a water bottle with me as I dehydrate quickly when skating.
