Im so disapointed, I cant exercise..... everytime I try to do 30DS or jog my shins start hurting.... someone told me it might be shin splints. I guess I will just have to walk until they stop hurting. Any ideas for other exercise's I can do that are low impact for my shins?

  • Do you stretch your legs before exercising? That might help with shin splints.

Is there any place you can use a pool? It only has to go up to your waist! I have a great physical therapy center with a salt water pool! There are also some fitness places with great specials that have pools. But, maybe you have a friend or local community pool.
  • Jump in the pool and go swimming. Doesn't get any lower impact.

You may also look at the shoes you are running in. If your shoes are worn out or if they are not the right shoe for your foot, they could be part of the problem. If you haven't been fit at a running store, I would STRONGLY suggest doing so. They will look at your foot, your stride and whether or not you pronate and get you in the right shoe.

    Good luck.
  • every consider weight training?? lower weight higher reps. clean, controlled form. It will give you results. stay eating clean :)

I get shin splints super easy, for me I have found that walking backwards helped alleviate it. If i walk a mile on the track I ll walk about a quarter of one lap backwards. The theory is working the same muscles in the opposite direction. It works for me.

As far as other exercises go, there are a TON out there. It just all depends on you and what you like. Dance, kickboxing and more. Personally I hate walking, I cant run(for health reasons) and I hate long monotonous workouts so I like the dance/kickboxing stuff.
  • Before you start running, take some time to stretch. Especially walk on your toes and walk on your heels- that's the best way to warm up your shins. Also, running on a track (like at a high school) or soft ground like grass provides lower impact than running on concrete.
  • There are so many exercises you can do lying down and raising your legs etc. Yoga is another excellent form of exercise I'm doing I feel great.
