I have a pair of these that I use for walking. Do they really help you burn more calories? They claim to help burn up to 13.2% more.

I was told by my personal trainer and my doctor NOT to use them that they can be harmful, but I don't know why.
  • I worked at an elementary school for a while and ALL (the three that I directly worked with) of the other faculty was buying them... so out of peer pressure, I did too! I really loved them! Even wore them to the gym for a while! Although it hurt my shins terribly when I was running. Otherwise, I enjoyed them, whether they worked or not. (I'm a short girl, and they make me at least two inches taller, and also, it's fun to play balance games with myself as I rock on whatever that material is that's in them). :)

    No.

They're ugly and make people more prone to ankle injury since some tend to (stupidly) use them as an athletic shoe.
  • I have a pair I wear when walking on the treadmill. I doubt they do much, BUT they are comfy and my feet don't hurt after I am done. I wish I hadn't wasted $80 on them though!

I loved my shape-ups. I could feel my calves burning when I wore them (in a good way!). I wore mine until they died, literaly I haven't bought another pair because of the cost but once I can afford it I am going to!

no, and they dont shape you either. the generica ones, champions, theyre really compfy, and you dont need to break em in, not good if you think they'll make you look like whats her face in the commercials, but great if you gotta be on your feet most of the day

my mother in law has them, the sketcher ones, and they messed up her back. i got the champions ones, payless $35.00, and ive been wearin them since october. great if you have to be on your feet all day, like at a resturant or warehouse

    I think thye are ugly.
I too was told that they cause injury.
one of my friends actually sprained her ankle! I think it's because they are so bulky.

I do however own a pair of Reebok Easy Tone and I LOVE THEM!!
My hunny got them as a gift for me a while back.
They are very comfortable, cute and I can feel my muscles working when I wear them!
They are a bit pricey (over $100 but well worth it.)

Plus I like the look... Sketchers not so much & then there's gthe whole injury thing.

That shape of heel has been around for decades.
    First it was "Space Shoes"
    Then it was "Earth Shoes"
    Now its "Shape Ups"

Do they make you more tired when walking? If they don't then they can't be burning more calories.

This is a wonderful idea, and I wish more folks here would take the initiative like this and look things up online to get the story straight from the source and make up their own mind. I would place a lot more weight on an article or info on a reputable medical website than advice from strangers online which is often 2nd hand (or 3rd hand or 4th....)

    Good luck!

I don't think that they do anything workout wise. I am on my feet all day at work and wear them. I do this because they are the most comfortable shoe I have found. My feet are not sore at the end of the day and the shoe feels as if they are massaging my feet.
