sometimes (maybe once or twice a month) i allow myself to eat whatever i want. that way i dont have to worry about calories and can just enjoy a day out with the family and treat myself . will this slow my progress? does anyone else do this?

i dont Not pay attention to what im eating, i allow myself a "maintenance" day a week. I just eat my current maintenance calories. One day wont completely throw you off though, try not to be too terrible though, because after all, your trying to achieve a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Well, atleast thats why im here.0

I eat whatever I want, but in moderation. I eat a 1/2 cup of ice cream every night. I always stay within my calories. But if I don't allow myself to eat the sweets I want I end up craving them even more & go over board when I do have them. So I eat what I want, when I want it. BUT the key is moderation.... I've also lost 30lbs since March 20th.... So it's not really setting me back0

Personally, I've only been logging Monday through Friday, and avoid thinking about calories at all on weekends.
*edit*
I only started that after I hit my initial goal, but I've lost another 5 pounds since then. Prior, I stuck with my calories, but always included foods I really like, such as pizza, ice cream, pasta, etc.0 -
Every night I treat myself to a small sweet, and twice a week I go out. Up at my university, my friend and I do "Frozen Yogurt Fridays" and "Smoothie/Sandwich Saturdays" at our two fav local places. All other days I do something small.0

Once in a while is fine. As long as those days don't get too frequent. You should always be aware and think before you reach.0

Lots of people do that, call it a cheat day, spike day, refeed etc. Once or twice a month is pretty conservative, I wouldn't be worried about it at all. You just don't want it to start happening all the time.0

In my opinion, the eating we do with friends and family on holidays and special occasions nourishes our souls.
That said, it should be limited to truly special occasions.
Typical day to day eating should be measured and controlled because frankly it can be kind of dull and it might as welll be healthy.0 -
"So, when it comes to eating healthy, it's just doing the right thing. And it's not something you have to do 365 days a year, but I think it's something you have to do 25 days a month. Let's put it that way." - Mike Ditka
I don't clean eat. I eat what I want I just don't eat ALL of it in sight. lol
Yesterday we went to two birthday parties. I did what I could and knew I would be well over my calories for the day. In the end, I was, but I was at about 2,000 calories for the day which is a remarkable improvement over past practices. Had it been last year, I would've had a 4,000 calorie day easily and been miserable today because of it.
Every now and again I have a 'zig zag' day where I go over my calories a bit and have that extra treat. It actually jump starts my metabolism and it keeps me from feeling like I'm depriving myself of something. So it works. I usually have losses after a zig zag day and it's great when I've plateaued.0 -
I do this. I put it on the calendar and look forward to it. I allow myself an entire cheat day once or twice a month. Would I lose faster if I never cheated? Maybe. But I need those cheat days. I enjoy looking forward to them.0

first of all congrats on your progress. i have plateaued and everyone says it is because i need to eat more but i am worried if i up my calories i will GAIN weight instead of losing. what is your take on this. will eating more help me lose and improve my metabolism or is my body used to eating less calories and if i consume more will i gain? weighloss is so hard and tricky sometimes0 -
I have always read that a cheat meal is better then a whole day. That said I think when you do make time for the 'special' occassions and meals it brings reality to the game. It makes you appreciate the treats even more. Since you do once a month I think more then okay. You can always exercise extra that day if you wish. To me like vacation...not something you do all the time but when you do it is so niiiiiiiice!0
