i have been doing walking between 20-50 minutes. the past few days have been on the higher end. i added my exercise as 3.0 mph, at times its faster, especially today since i felt totally energized, at times maybe a little slower due to the incline of the streets, somewhat hilly like... mfp says my loss is 299 cals, two other sites had 314 and another had 396.. which one do i go with? i took the estimate of the three which was 336. i knows its all estimation

I'd go with the lowest estimate to be safe, but since you're walking hills as well you might want to go for the 314 category.0

Just because I'm anal and was using MFP, I'd go with their number. You should look into a Heart Rate Monitor then you'll know exactly what you burn. I was surprised with the differences in MFP and what I was actually burning once I started using one. Good luck!0

I personally take what MFP says. If it is on the low side, so be it. At least I won't cheat myself by eating too much that day!0

One rule of thumb I always stick to is estimate low for exercise calories and high for food calories. So far its worked pretty darn well for me :-) But if you really want to know exacts then a HRM would be a great investment. Good luck on your weight loss journey :-)0

theres not really much difference between 299 & 314, which you are getting from 3 sites, so I would guess the 396 one is wrong. I don't think 15 cals either way is going to make a huge difference.0

It’s a tough call because all these sites (mfp) included are just estimates. And the calories burned are all based on you personally, and how hard your body is working. Whichever you chose, make it consistent and stick with that for the duration. I personally would stick with mfp.
You can use an HRM to determine the exact cals burned. Or, if you have a smart phone, there is an app called Runtastic that you can have on during your walk. It calculates the average specific miles per minute so it is easier to select the right one in mfp0 -
i agree there isnt much of a difference when it comes to two of the sites and the other one is way out the ballpark! i definately need to invest in a hrm and a step counter. thank you for the replies0

If you are a walker, then I highly suggest this cool gizmo. I use it everyday!!
The Nike + iPod sensor. It only costs about $20 (less if you can find it on eBay.)
I trust it as it tracks your walk for your body.
Try it out! You will LOVE it!!0
