I go back to university in 7 weeks and i was wondering if there are any tips people can give me to get more in shape so i can try out for the cheerleading squad? at the moment i do about 40 minutes on a stationary bike and 20 minutes of walking a day.

I would try training for a 5k and weight lifting.

Cheerleading is a long endurance sport.

Add strength training for toning and gaining muscle mass. Good Luck:)

My daughter is a cheerleader. Her recommendations are to add weight training to help with any lifts you need to do if you are a base and any tumbling you need to do for the rest of the routine even if you are a flyer. (The most specific exercise she said was handstand push-ups, but I recommend starting with something easier and build up to those.) She also said to practice tumbling and jumps. Physical conditioning is less important to making the squad then being able to perform the skills, so get those down first and then build up your endurance in doing those so you are conditioned for doing them repeatedly in practices. Good luck!
