I was asked do I walk every day

About a week ago, one of my friends asked me do I walk everyday...and I have to say Yes. I recieved my motivation from a post I received on MFP. One of my friends noticed that I primarily just walked whenever I had a chance because i was just to busy or tired to go to the gym or to do anything else hard with a high output... and I was starting to feel really discouraged. So she posted " Come on Laylah Even a little walk round the block will do wonders. You can do this" So, long story short as my mind is wondering surfing the net on other pointers and ideas to lose weight. I thought hey why not just walk it off. I can make time out to walk or to count steps. So heres the idea/plan:
3500 calories in a pound... 70,000 calories in 20 pounds
So I would have to walk about 700 miles to lose 20 pounds... (burning 96 calories in 20 min (1 mile at 3.0 mph)
It would take about roughly about 10 weeks to complete
Is any one else game????? Oct 9th goal day or less .

Woot woot!!! Yeaaaa!!! Mos Def!!!0 -
I'm so there!!! Let's do it!0

I'm game - Oct. 9th is my 30th birthday, and I had hoped to be down 30 lbs. (total from start weight) by that day...0
-
I walk for 20min on my lunch break at a brisk pace...thanks for putting that into #s and weight loss! I am also marathon tranining and doing my toning workouts0
-
I walk everyday, but I think it'd take longer than that for me to burn off 20lbs even though I walk way more than 20 minutes a day...and that' just what I log...0
-
This is Awesome!!! How about weekly if not daily posts for how many miles you've completed.0
-
well, i do like to walk. 700miles in 10weeks though. that's one kick-butt challenge, but I am game {wincing} lol0
-
Sounds great! It will keep me motivated! This may even be the way I get off my fat butt and finally attempt C25K! LOL0
-
Ummm, I dont want to rain on your parade - I think walking is a great way to get moving and 20 mins is not to be sneezed at but to walk 700 miles in 10 weeks you'd have to walk 10 miles every day.0

never mind.. answered my own question0

True but I bet you walk a lot more than you think you do....Put it like this casual walking 20 minutes is a mile. if you have a pedoimeter its about 2,000 steps and if you have tried to complete 10,000 a day challenge that would be 5 miles.
So, if you walk...
- during lunch or to lunch that's a mile
- up and downstairs instead of taking the elevator that's a mile
- park your car little farther that's a mile
- lol, go to the mall or window shopping that's defitnely a mile =-)0 -

Math is not my strong point so I would like something clarified. So if I walk 20 minutes a day at 3.0 mph, I could lose 20 pounds in 10 weeks (providing I keep my calories in check0?
Sorry to say - but at 20 mins (one mile) a day, it would take 100 weeks to complete.
But, that's no reason to not get moving, walking is great!0 -

No your not raining on my parade and I know it's 10 miles. It'll work it self out. You can do 20 min breaks or knock it a hour at a time 3hrs 20minutes to be exact. So you could walk....
a hour in the morning
a hour sometime during work (in increments) or during your lunch
and a hour after or before dinner (lol, especially if you have to grocery shopping before you start).
It's not that bad. And believe me you I had to think about too before I posted it.=-)0 -

LOL, no worries. But in order to attain the goal day you would have to walk more than 20 minutes a day...I'm quite sure you probably do that naturally anyway. We'll keep each other motivated.0 -
I would love to do this too. Not sure I'll make 700 miles in 10 weeks but it will get me out walking again. And who knows we just may make it. It's a push in the right direction!

I know...Same here. I'm starting to really enjoy the calculators on that website. =-)0 -

Mos Def Rainwell...I hopefully I can do the same as well. =-)0 -
It's doable with a pedometer. I'm making a plan...LOL. I can easily walk 2 miles around my block and do my hr long 4 mile workout every day. I just have to DO it! LOL. I'm not saying I will make it to 700 miles....but I'm gonna try!0

Cool, I wondered if that was just hopeful maths there
I don't have a pedometer but should get one, it would be interesting to track how far I actually walk in a day - I run most days but I know those kms because I use Runkeeper, but I don't track any of the extra walks to and from the bus or up and down the stairs at the office.0 -
Is it too late to join? I think I can do this. I have started making an effort to walk at least two miles a day on purpose not including all the walking I do just normally, I think I could do up to ten miles a day and it would make me make an effort to get up more at all times of the day.0
