My husband, little one and I went to a major chain store today for various items for an upcoming trip ad daily needs. At the check out the cashier commented on my Fiber One brownie bars (why do they comment on what I buy, I fricken hate that) asking "Oh, were you suckered in by the commercial?" I said "No. They taste great and are a better alternative then boxed brownie mix or worst, pre-made." The conversation then turned to her saying she'd never been able to stick to a diet. I said it's all about portion control and healthier choices, yet she replied that it would never happen with her. "Between the two of us we've lost over 70 lbs in 3 months. If you want it it can work."

I schooled her a bit, saying it's all about finding healthy alternatives to bad foods. I taught her the Diet Sprite/Coke & cake mix recipe for cupcakes less than 170 calories each (1 can, 1 box, mix and bake to the box's instructions. Making them into cupcakes helps with portion control/size.). Put some fresh berries on top and maybe a tablespoon of low cal Cool Whip and there's a healthy dessert for your sweet and sugary cravings.

Since we started watching our potions and making better choices the weight has been easier to come off & keep off. I can truly say this 'diet' has been the easiest one yet. But if you are going to go into the change with a poor attitude, telling yourself it won't work then don't be shocked that it doesn't work.

  • I think that's why MFP is such a great thing. It's a place where people with similar goals can come together and encourage/ be encouraged. I've never shared my weight loss/getting healthy journeys before. Did you tell the cashier about this site?

I agree ! I can't stand when people comment on what your buying,
or especially when your bigger, and your buying all the healthy foods like fruits and veggies and such, and you get that look of
"You know what a fruit is?"

    Its so rude!

Congrats to you guys for getting off that weight, and good luck with your goals!

People are in different stages of their lives. Who knows what she is going through and why she feels she can't loose weight. She must be stressed and feel out of control....who knows? Most of us at MFP have come here ready to make healthier changes in our lives. It is our choice. We were not making those healthy choices and were not ready to diet for what ever reason.

    I LOVE FIBER ONE BARS!

I know... I hate when cashiers comment on your purchases. I had this one lady give me a questionable/judgmental looks when I bought ahem...umm family planning items... I was married 6-7 years at the time and she says " Hmm....didn't know these came in colors/flavors etc etc.." LOL :::blushes:::
  • I don't look at it as rude, I look at it as an oppurtunity to educate people, Alot of people are....well lets just say not wise. They try fad diets and really just dont know what a proper and healthy diet is. I do agree the comment about "getting suckered in " was uncalled for, but you schooled her an dI would take teh time next time and go to her register, and give her some more schooling EACH AND EVERY TIME. I deal with "not so wise"people every day so I guess I am use to educating people through mild sarcasm that is usually not noticed until I have left.

I get asked questions all the time about what I am buying esp since I buy a lot of vegetarian/vegan products. Like is that actually good. etc.

My favorite cashier comment I got was at Costco, and we were getting prescaned and the cashier said we won had the healthiest cart that day.

I do relate how it can make you crazy, people say I want to change, you make a suggeston. then oh i can't do that.
