Break up exercise throughout the day

I run every day, for at least an hour. That I don't plan to change. I usually go first thing in the morning, or at the very end of the day, and I want to do it all at once. But I work from home, and it's a very sedentary job. I don't have an hour solid to do anything else, but I have bits of time here and there, where I'm not on the phone or responding to emails. If I hop on the elliptical for 10 minutes at a time, and get another hour of exercise in there, is that as effective as working out for a solid hour?
