Took my son to the doctor today and explained his running away - 3 times, lack of attention span, and generally not being able to cope in stressul situations.
Our doctor thinks he may have ADHD or Aspergers Syndrome, so has refered him to have an assessment with the mental health team at the hospital.

Hi Jackie. I am glad he is home and safe with you as well.
Having known a few kids with this, and MIND YOU I AM NOT GOING TO GENERALIZE THIS!
But ONE of the first things that you might want to try is REMOVING DYES from the foods that he eats.
Science is finding that the reason that our children are so PRONE to these types of things these days is from the foods that they are consuming. Sodas, candies, chips, carry out foods etc.
Going with a more natural food selection sometimes has shown such GREAT improvment in children that they where not even needing medication.
Just something to consider and think about.
My best wishes go out to you!

I have a friend that has twins with both Aspergers and ADHD, Both were diagnosed when they were very little with them. The kids are in Junior high right now and during the school year they help treat the symptoms with meds. In the summer the girl doesn't take meds, but the boy, who is worse, does take them all year long.

Yeah a friend of mine has a son with ADHD & Torrets - gets kinda interesting in the shops/restaurants.
She told me about added colourings, and I have noticed that my son is real hyper if he has smarties, skittles, too much chocolate, coffee or coke, sometimes he craves doughnuts, but he'll eat like 10 in one go, and think nothing of it - and then he'll be on an all time high for the rest of the day (and yes, he is as skinny as a rake :noway: ) Oh boy do I wish I had his motabolism!

Usually, when it's time for him to get ready for work, its a real chore getting him moving, but, today, since speaking to our doctor, he was great - I said, right, time to turn the tv off I'm afraid son, he said yup, ok mum, next thing I know, he's upstairs getting his uniform on, and even bought his washing down stairs for me !!!! I think the talk with the doc, reassured him that, yes there is something wrong, but it's ok, cos it can be treated

Jackie, I'm so glad things are settling down just a bit. The evaluation will help the family, all around.
