Are you the "slow & steady" or "jump in head first" type?

It depends on what it is in life, but I'm finding that I'm slow to make changes.
I'm very stressed about some other life issues and an upcoming move, so I'm not actually starting to even track my food at this point. I don't want to attempt "dieting" while I'm stressed out - I've successfully lost over 40# before and know I will do it when I commit, but I just don't really want to commit right now. When I do, I'll probably track but not stay under my goal for weeks until I get my head on straight... just the way I work. Anything "lifestyle" related I tend to be really slow at - quitting smoking, exercising, whatever it may be.
I see a lot of people jump in to a vegetarian lifestyle... or up and quit smoking. Dude... I'd fail miserably *LOL*
But when it comes to a project at work, for example, I'm totally head first.

Head first into the shallow end.0

I used to embrace change, the more extreme the better. But I've gotten old! and set in my ways! I just can't handle change anymore. itty bitty baby steps, one big toe at a time.
And I can only handle so much stress at once. Dieting is stressful. So if something else gets thrown in, I can only deal with one crisis at a time.0 -

I'm a jump in headfirst person but I'm also an old habits die hard person.
I can quit smoking for long periods of time and just up and quit one day, cold turkey.
But yet I can't tell you how many times I've done this. (I'm currently a non-smoker).
I jumped into veganism from being a meat eater whereas most people transition with vegetarianism first.
I also have to be all or nothing in weight loss--either I don't watch my weight at all or else I go full force, not eating enough calories and dropping weight rapidly. Because I either have to get it done or not do it at all. I can't just do something slow and steady.0 -
I want it all, and I bust *kitten* every single damn day to get it. It's 200% or no hundred percent from me.

I'm definitely "slow and steady" which is why it took me 6 years to lose 100 pounds! LOL
I'm also slow and steady when it comes to running. I'm a big believer in finishing, even last, as long as I finish!0 -
Head first, all or nothing type, no if and or buts. That's me but I understand other people issues, very nice post0

Definately the "jump in head first" but unfortunately like my boyfriend states, it doesn't last. So I jumped in head first and now I'm learning to be "slow and steady" it works for lifelong changes. Just being here and giving and getting support makes the difference. Hope you're having a good day. I know about the stress, I stress eat and recently it has been bad...the last couple of days better, but it's a lifelong thing........Good luck.:flowerforyou:0

I see your point, and do agree that some people try to go from a horrible diet to trying to be "perfect" ,and that is not even remotely reasonable. I think that a drastic change like that sets you up for failure, and while some do it for diet, it would be ridiculous if we tried it in other areas of life. In running, golf, or any sport/hobby, we try for consistent incremental change. we improve one small thing, do it consistently to make it a habit, and then try the next step. For me, gaining the weight was a result of many small bad habits i created and executed consistently, and loosing the 40+lbs i have is also the application of incremental change.
my first steps were to stop skipping meals, then to eliminate carbs/processed sugars, work out 1 day a week, then increase over time to 4 days a week. I think that small victories can be strung together to achieve our goals, and building on success just seems to be a more sustainable way of doing it.
My 2 cents.
