Yup! I find it fascinating. I weigh before bed and when I wake up, just to see how much it was.

Me too! I only ever record my morning weight. I put it down to the 8hrs sleep I have with no water and no food. My body uses it all so I weigh less. Anyone know if this is right??

It's always been that way for me. I like your approach, though. I always say I gain 2 - 3 pounds through the day. Losing is much better, lol. That is why I weigh first thing when I get up. It's my lowest weight of the day.

More like a pound for me, but yes that always happens, it's down to digestion and respiration / perspiration, if you're very lucky there's also a bit of fat burning going on..

Must try that! Never usually weigh at night but if it's true then what a boost!
  • I think it's probably because all your food gets fully digested and your stomache is completely empty so when u weigh yourself in the morning when you havent ate, you're lighter on the scale.

    Yup.

Think about it - while you sleep you don't eat or drink, so you aren't taking mass in. When you wake up - you got to the bathroom, so that's mass out.

Also - every time you breathe in O2, you exhale CO2. CO2 has more mass than O2, so every time you breathe, you are losing mass, and you do that all night long. Now, I don't know how much 'weight' that really amounts too in the end, You'd have to do some volume/moles/blah blah blah chemistry stuff to figure that out - it might not amount to more than a few grams, or it might amount to half a pound. Any chemistry geeks here want to tackle that and estimate it for us???

Yep, your body has been fasting for a long period. All the salt you ate also has a chance to leave your body AND when you pee in the morning, you don't have extra fluid in your body from drinking all day (you don't drink while you sleep)!

That would be the work of the fat fairies. They're kinda like leprechauns only not so evil.

If you weigh yourself before you go to bed, you will be at your heaviest weight of the day. When you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, you are at your lightest weight of the day. Makes perfect sense that you would "lose" 2-3 lbs! Just weigh yourself first thing in the morning once a week and track that weight. Don't let the scale drive you crazy

I tend to swell at night and weigh more first thing in the morning than I do an hour or two later.

Or like the tooth fairy, but instead of taking a tooth they take a little fat. Oh I like that idea.

I do believe in fairies! I do believe in fairies! I do! I do!

I only record my weight after I weigh first thing in the morning. I get encouragment at that time as it is only up from there. I've seen it fluctuate up to 5 pounds throughout the day. I do not do that any longer. I find it amazing that it can go up a pound or two even within an hour. So as not to be so discouraged, I only get on the scales first thing in the morning.

Your body weight won't increase during the day unless you put something into it. Mass cannot be manufactured from sunlight, unless you're unfortunate enough to photosynthesise - how awful that would be!

Intestinal bacteria does form part of your faeces but they don't reproduce at anywhere near the rate of 1lb an hour. A large glass of water weighs a pound though, not so it's not all that amazing really.

EDITED TO ADD: I love the idea of fat faries!
