I wish you the best of luck, My advice are:

    1. Stay within your calories
    2. Drink plenty of water
    3. Excersise, Cardio cardio, cardio
    4. Get an HRM (heart rate monitor) to accuratly track you calories burned.
    5. Have fun and challenge yourself.
    6. DON"T GIVE UP. There are times you want to quit, but don't.

    Good Luck my friend

  • Hey there and welcome! My best advice is to not consider this as a diet (I don't think they work in the long haul) but as a lifestyle change to keep you healthier. Know in advance that it will take time, sweat, tears and more than a few curse words, However, YOU are worth it all. You have to believe in yourself and be willing to conquer obstacles that get in your way, which can include your family and friends (including your favorite food friends).

If I can ever be of any help, let me know. I know some of the short cuts on this journey and you will discover many others who have walked the path you are starting and are willing to walk that journey with you. Add me if you like!

I lost 130 lbs a couple years ago. The best (and hardest) thing I did was detox myself for the first week. Absolutely no sugar or carbs. I ate dairy, tuna, protein shakes, and eggs. After I did that, I didn't crave all the junk (fried foods and sweets) and it was so much easier to stay on track. Of course, you have to get through the detox in order to rid of that urge in the first place. I kept my protein intake high throughout my weight loss journey. I ate on salad plates for portion control and ate my proteins first....then veggies. I found in doing so, I was full enough at that point to discard any carbs on your plate. If you go out to eat, don't let them put bread or chips on your table beforehand. Politely decline.....and stay away from buffets.
  • Don't get hung up on bad days... keep the momentum toward the goal and get back on track ASAP!! Do not succumb to the "I've already blown my calorie for the day so I'll just go ahead and eat this chocolate cake" mentality. When you realize what you are doing, interrupt it with something healthy or go out and exercise to earn more calories for the day.

Its not about perfection... its about persistence toward a healthy lifestyle. :) You can do it!!

On my way there! I've lost 75lbs thanks to MFP.

    My Tips:
    1. Just try the discipline of logging everything you eat!
    2. Purchase a food scale if you don't have one already and make sure you have plenty of measuring cups & spoons.
    3. Get a smart phone with the app. I know this may sound crazy if you don't already have one but a smart phone plan is only $20-30 more a month which is WAY worth changing your life. Plus, the Reciepe Creator is better on the app than the website plus there is a barcode scanner. (My experience with the Andriod app)
    4. Eat regular snacks. I eat a planned snack at lunch and an evening snack after dinner. This helps me keep satisfied and not go starving into a meal. You can also add a morning snack between breakfast and lunch.
    5. Start with watching calories only. Don't worry about carbs, fat, protien, whole grains, vitamins, etc etc etc. Start simple and add other goals as you learn more and what fits with your personality and interests.
    6. I personally don't look at exercise as part of my losing weight program but rather just part of my overall fitness. You have to do a lot of exercise just to burn 1/2 a meal. Therefore exercise regularly but just think of it as buidling strength & endurance and increasing your metablism.

I pray and hope this helps! Enjoy your journey!
