I was SHOCKED!

I have to say that My Fitness Pal really opened my eyes lately. I am trying to get back to my pre-college weight. I have been recording EVERYTHING I put in my mouth (yes, even those tiny bites off my sisters plate) and boy does it add up! I was suprised to find that I was consuming about 1,500 calories a day with little to no exercise!
I guess Im not in denial anymore. Time to make some changes! THANKS MFP!

1,500 calories a day isn't excessive at all. That's just 100 more than I eat on my non-workout days, and it's much less than I eat when I do workout. 1200 is just an average--it doesn't work for everyone, and it's not a foolproof number. 1500 is a very reasonable amount to eat, and I'm surprised that you were taking in such a sensible amount of calories without counting.
Also, keep in mind that your pre-college weight was also your pre-adult weight. While 18 years is a legal adult, it is not entirely a physiological adult. You may never reach that weight again now that you've reached full development. There may be a new healthy weight for your current life stage. :flowerforyou:0 -
1500 calories a day is not an excessive amount of calories! For most people, that isn't even enough to maintain their current weight.
It is more important to track what you are eating to be aware of your nutrition.
((edit)) he he. HI, songbyrdsweet. We think alike on this one. Simultaneous posting :laugh:0 -
Well, I should probably say that it was the HIGH fat content and poor choices of food that really had me shocked. Lots of junk, you know. Also, I should probably say that I'm looking to lose about 20lbs. Its not a HUGE weight loss goal. I just want to be healthy and get rid of the chubby face and love handles!0

Well that is great! I'm sure you will notice a big difference in how you feel once you switch to more wholesome foods. Remember that fat is necessary for nerve function and hormone production, and while trans-fat should be avoided, all other types of fat are needed in the diet, even some saturated. Aim for 15-30% of your calories from fat to ensure that you don't get too little. Lots of fresh veggies, fruits, complex carbs, and lean proteins should fill the rest of your calories. You can still eat some food that isn't totally 'healthy' as long as it's in moderation. Even the 'bad' foods have redeeming qualities--chocolate has antioxidants and ice cream has calcium! :flowerforyou:0
