Other rice may not work because sushi rice is glutinous rice, which makes it sticky because of the extra starch. You may have to cook brown rice longer so it becomes softer and squishier so it'll at least stick together, but it won't have the same texture. You could always eat it sashimi style :)

    Hi
I have basmati rice because it has a loe Gi.
I'm not sure of the calories compared to the sushi rice though, you could look it up!

  • Hi! Yeah, no other rice type will work in terms of texture, but you can get brown glutinous rice (which will up the fibre and nutriciousness big time) and just change what you add to it - instead of sweetened, flavoured rice vinegar, put regular rice vinegar and I don't know, some powdered ginger and sesame seeds to flavour it? Maybe I'll experiment myself!

    Heres the thing with Sushi.
Yes it is High in Calories because face it Rice is high in calories.
But what RELLY put it over the top is the amount that we eat of it.
In Japan, the serving size is 2 pieces. Let me repeat that 2 PIECES! THAT is the meal, along with the Miso soup. Which if measured out is about 1/4 cup. topping at 5 to 10 fab calories. That and a glass of hot green or Jasmine tea.
The rest of the world eats 6 times that amount. you know the trays of Sushi that you get at the store that have 8 to 12 pieces? To the people of Japan that is a family size.
We do need carbs to keep our moods good and energy levels high.
again, Everything in moderation is the key.
