Getting Hit On at The Gym

I just got hit on for the first time by a guy from my gym. :ohwell: You might think that is awesome, :drinker: but that is my SANCTUARY! :indifferent: I mean, I spontaneously cry, rant, :explode: growl, grunt, :grumble: spit and sweat! I don't look cute or made up at all and I am really not excited to have someone oogiling me and making me insecure! :blushing: How do I keep from getting insecure as I also press to be more and more attractive? :smooched:

This may sound pathetic, but you all know how it is! Thanks for the feedback!

  • Might want to cut down on the drooling/growling/grunting/ranting because apparently your hard work is paying off ;)

Well, I find that I get 'hit on' more when I look like a mess than when I am at my best.... girl, just go with it!

You can't control what other people do. You can control how you act and respond to the situation.

I don't understand why you feel insecure that he hit on you. Clearly, he found something that he thought was attractive, even though the sweating, grunting, etc. If you are not interested, you politely thank him (assuming he was appropriate in his hit-on comments), and move on with life.

I lift heavier than most of the men there, that usually discourages them :-)

be flattered that someone saw through the sweat and grunts...and find a polite way to say you're not interested and move on.

Dont sweat it (see what i did there! lol)

If they have seen you at your worse, straight after a work out, should you really worry?

Enjoy the attention and use it at motivation to work harder or to obtain more confidence.

I understand how you feel, the gym should be off limits, unless one is just hanging out to talk at the front desk or other place. Being hit on in the gym in the past has annoyed me or has made me feel very uncomfortable just as you have described. If you haven't already, you should consider wearing headphones and donning the "gym stare". Never look anyone in the eye unless you are asking to work in to a set on a machine or free weights. Just my coping mechanisms, hope they work for you.

Oh, time for some old school!

Wear the same work out clothes each day and make sure they are ratty torn up sweats.

Spit on your hands before every lift.

Do lifts that you don't see him do. Most guys don't train legs...............one set of leg extensions isn't training legs.

Discreetly sniff your armpits while he looks.

    That should do it.

No you can't control what other people do, but just for your information, some of us feel tat if other people can't take a hint it is annoying. And lets take that one step further, just plain rude. And a hint, I mean, I am not looking at you, and not looking at anybody, I am busy here. It is a huge pain in the *kitten* when someone wants to chat on the workout floor. If you want to socialize, then go to a club or hang out at the front desk and annoy the receptionist.

She said she was hit on. She didn't say she was harassed by the person, or that he was insistent or even rude, or that he couldn't take a hint. Nor did she say she didn't make any eye contact with him. I respect and completely understand your viewpoint. There's no need for "for your information" comments as if you're talking to me like I'm a child.

I yearn for the day when someone hits on me at the gym. I will lap it up like the good little lap dog I am. I will also start a thread called "Yay at last. Someone hit on me in the gym. Is this an NSV?" and then lap up all the forum love and hope someone starts a fight on my thread. My desires are small and haven't been met yet. Slinky is sad ;-(

I can understand your frustration. Once I was hit on at the gym by a man that was at least 50, and I was still in high school at the time.

However, if you haven't had many problems at the gym before, it probably wont be an issue. Just shrug it of and use that frustration to work out a bit harder.

Honestly, you're better off meeting a guy when you are a sweaty mess because he sees you for you who are. Two nuggets of truth...one, in college when I got dressed up and wore makeup to go out to the bars I hardly ever talked to any guys, but when I'd go in a hoodie and baseball cap I would get a handful of phone numbers (yes, i said handful, because they were on paper...before cell phones). Two, I met my husband after I'd been bartending all day wearing a tuxedo shirt, bow tie, vest and black pants with boring work shoes. Just be yourself and if a guy at the gym hits on you because he likes what he sees when you're grunty and sweaty, take it as genuine interest :)

Just randomly drop a tube of feminine itch cream. Throw down some Preparation H from time to time for good measure.

Omg reading this made my day!! I get hit on at the gym and it annoys me more than anything b/c I am there to train! But I do take it as a compliment! I get more irritated by people telling me what I should be doing, I find this irritating b/c I train different and lift very hard!
I think the best hit on I've heard is "your very tone compared to the other women I see in here!" and he was in his 50's lol and very out of shape lol

I understand I think in that I feel a bit intimidated at the gym and the last thing I want to know is that someone is looking at me. My focus is getting exercise not flirting. I think if we aren't sending off any clues we should be left alone. If we are obviously seriously working out get the message. I think people can tell when you are open to being approached. Some people don't have a clue though.

Sounds like I hit a nerve? If you respect and completely understand my viewpoint, then why do you feel like I am talking to you as if you are a child? I am talking to you as a woman who works out in the gym!
  • Well, it's a compliment, but if it were me, I would just say something like, "You know, I'm here to workout, not get a date." However, I'm a major B*&^H.

I hear ya. I had some lady trying to talk to me recently while I had my headphones in. I took them out and was like, "I can't hear you. I'm listening to music." Get a clue.

I was going to suggest joining an all women gym, but I guess you can still get hit on there.

NO NO NO, A person should go to the BEST gym around, regardless of their gender. I pay the same dues as the other people, so I expect not to be hassled. Hassled is hassled, period.
