The very best meal was Christmas dinner, took days to make, by the Italian part of our family. Just a few weeks ago, we were surprised by a fantastic meal when traveling through a small northern town in Michigan at Hermanns in Cadillac, Michigan.

Two "best meal ever" memories and both of them in Scotland - whoo hoo!

    1) Filet mignon (thank you local coos) wrapped not with bacon but smoked salmon and served with a Highland Park sauce. The meat was sooooo tender we cut it with butter knives. We were on our honeymoon on Orkney and were also celebrating my 30th birthday at the Stromness Hotel. Some day we'll get back there!

    2) A meal called "A Taste of Loch Fyne" at The Millenium Hotel in Glasgow. Fresh langostines, prawns, mussels, and salmon done two ways. <drool> Finished up the meal with a chocolate pot with sage. It was served in a tiny espresso cup and was some of the most amazing chocolate I've ever had.

    Nom, nom, nom.

A Grilled Ribeye with the right seasoning, Medium-Rare. Has to be thick and marinaded for a long time.

My Mom's fried chicken. She puts ground oregano on the chicken before she flours it.

I could go my whole life without meat. As long as I new that once a month I could get one of these.

I've always liked the Surf & Turf meals at various places, but I have trouble deciding. I'd love to go somewhere and have a Surf & Surf & Surf & Turf & Turf & Turf.... Lobster, crab, shrimp, steak, ribs and chicken.

Small portions of each, of course.

the best dessert i've had.. rum-soaked bread pudding from The Captain's Tavern in the Coral Gables area of FL. *FAINTS*
  • Every meal I ate on our last 7 day cruise. Gained a pound a day while gone, but worth every calorie. I never got anything I didn't like.

Best meal ever was the seasonal Christmas menu at Club Gascon with an appropriate wine to accompany every course. Delicious beyond belief, I dream about going back, but at £200 a head you can bet I wasn't paying!

I'd love to go to Noma in Copenhagen whose locavore sourced food always look as beautiful as they must taste.

I grew up in the country. My grandparents and a couple aunts, uncles, cousins all lived on the same lane so we would have huge meals together most nights. My grandma was the BEST cook ever. Everything was fresh out of the garden or barn. OMG.... I can almost taste her fried chicken and milk gravy. And she always.... ALWAYS... made a dessert too. She taught me to cook but I can still never replicate her foods. A-mazing.

My husband once made a habanero meatloaf with mashed red potatoes and a habanero bechamel sauce.

Spicy, rich, and AWESOME. I will never forget just how delicious it was.

(Also that heat made me feel hella drunk.)

  • Kaiseki meal in our tatami room in a ryokan in Kyoto...so seasonal, so fresh, almost to0 good-looking to eat!

Runner up was a super casual tarbeach (= urban rooftop) BBQ in what is considered to be a 'bad neighborhood' where the host just happened to know a chef, who made amazing food: nothing fancy, but all good, fresh local ingredients. Fantastic! that's me salivating.

Dream place? Chez Panisse, Blue Hill at Stone Barn. But you know, I have very simple tastes. I miss my dearly departed Grandmother's cooking the most...

My boyfriend took me to Essex and we went on a dinner train for my 19th birthday. It was a really fancy four course dinner, and the entree was a 32 oz (I kid you not) prime rib au jus, with roasted potatoes and green beans with slivered roasted almonds. OMG, best dinner ever *drools*

We were on a cruise to Alaska and we went on a whalewatching excursion which ended up on an island that just had a big huge log house on it. The guys grilled us up some freshly caught Wild Alaskan Salmon. I never before or since had salmon so fresh and delicious. It tastes nothing like the salmon we get here, different color and texture and everything. They didnt do much to it, but they didnt need to..it was perfect. Of course the scenery helped too..glaciers and mountains and fresh air.

Other than that...a family favorite dating back generations: pinto beans and cornbread w-pickled beets.
