Dairy Free = Acne Free?

Over the past week I was staying with my grandparents in Minnesota. My grandpa is a now-retired doctor, and before I left he asked me, "What's this on your face? Is this acne? And on the other side, too?" I said it was, and he asked me if I wanted to know how to get rid of it. Like anyone who has acne, I said yes.

He told me that, to clear up my face, I needed to eliminate dairy (and solid animal fats?) from my diet. This means no cheese, no milk (unless it's skim milk), no ice cream (unless it's sherbet or something), no solid fats (like butter, even if it says it's fat free - as long as it's solid, I can't have it), no pizza (because of the cheese), no fried food, etc. He said that as long as I did this, my skin would clear up in two months.

Now, some of these things I MAY have misinterpreted a little, as my grandpa is Colombian and, even after being in the US for over 50 years, has a VERY thick accent. But I'm pretty sure that I got it right.

Has anyone else run into this solution, or even tried it? I know if I do this I'll have to make sure I take calcium supplements, for sure, but is there anything else I'm missing?

    Sounds right to me- I took dairy out of my diet and am finding my skin is clearer, but when I try and reintroduce it, I break out again

    My skin is much clearer as a vegan... and without dairy the little bumps all over my arms go away.

    Same here. Had terrible acne and rashes from my Lupus...cut out the dairy, and it virtually disappeared!

    It sort of makes sense.

    There are different types of acne. Some types are genetic, others can be caused by diet and/or the environment. There is some evidence out there that links some types of acne to food sensitivities, such as a food sensitivity to dairy. The best you can do is to try eliminating dairy for a while and see if that helps.
