edited October 1 in Introduce Yourself
I'm 7 days into using MFP. I figured I give it a little time before actually introducing myself. Anyhow, I've always struggled with weight issues and was never really informed or learned from my parents portion control/eating healthy. Now, at the age 23 here I am making it an effort to educate myself about what it takes to fuel myself appropriately without going overboard. I love cooking, especially baking that being said cookies are my weakness. Before starting MFP I thought paying attention to food I ate wasn't all that necessary in losing weight. I had my wake-up call when I really sat down and thought about all those trays of homemade cookies I'd make all too often. I could down 6-7 cookies in one evening and by the end regret it because my belly would ache.

I come from a background where exercise is talked about more so than eating habits. My dad was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes when I was 7 years old. He decided to go on an extreme exercise kick and began cycling along with a little change in diet. Today he still has his cycling group he meets up with and rides 60-70 miles Saturdays and Sundays. His idea of meals is either going to a freezer to pull out taquitos or going out to eat at the many restaurants in the area. Of course, after his several hours of riding he's burned 1,000 plus calories so eating a 800 calorie meal doesn't effect him the way it effects me. That's where I come in. I've gained weight steadily over several years thanks to the 'eating out lifestyle' I had grown accustomed to and hit 208 or so at my highest.

When I began my second year of college I finally decided to take charge and lose weight. I lost around 40 lbs. 3 years ago based off mostly exercising. I don't really remember my eating habits, but I know there were points where I wasn't so food oriented and cut back on the amount I ate. I became happy being 167-169 as my all-time low and kind of stopped there even though I wasn't done shedding the pounds. The beginning of last school year I noticed I was slowly creeping up to the mid 170s and by the time I graduated college (this last May) I was in the high 170s.

My REAL goal, that hopefully I can reach by December, is to finish what I started three years ago. I started MFP 7 days ago and have been able to restrain myself in the food area (portion control) leading to a success in losing 4 lbs.! I have faith that creating healthy eating habits/patterns with the help of MFP and my interest in exercising will make me well on my way to 40 lbs. lighter. The best part is knowing my boyfriend of almost 7 years is right at my side trying to accomplish the same!

Welcome!!! You are not alone. You are already on your way and you're going to learn a lot here. Since you like to cook, take a look at the recipe forum and get some ideas for low fat cooking. I posted a banana bread recipe recently that I love. There is a search feature that can help you find it.

It is all about change. You can't just diet and then go back and think you're cured. You gotta change. For me, I know I'll have to log and count calories for live. Now I'm dieting, later I'll be in maitenance.

Feel free to add me, I have a lot to lose so I'm going to be here for a while!
