You can get too much. The recommended daily allowance for adults is 25 g. Going a little over or a little under is not likely to cause any harmful effects. But, going too far over can cause bloating, overly large stools, abdominal pain, gassiness and totally defeats the purpose of having eaten it in the first place.
  • Because many foods are fortified with fiber, it is becoming easy to go over the recommended intake. I think the key word to take into consideration here is "recommended." We always hear that we're not getting enough fiber and that the lack of dietary fiber is bad. However, excessive dietary fiber can also have negative side effects. The general effect of too much fiber is diarrhea.

From personal experience, though, I’ve just become a bit gassy from too much fiber. If you are over-consuming fiber and are in fact getting sick, the risk of dehydration is present. It all comes down to exactly how much over you went with fiber, and how your individual body is going to handle it. Unless you start to feel sick, you should be fine.

MFP's fiber goal is way too low. You can manually change your goals from the My Home tab. Recommended for women under 50 is 25 grams, for men it's 38 grams. Over age 51, the recommendation is 21 and 30, respectively.

As the previous poster pointed out, you'll know if you're eating too much.

ETA: Many people feel MFP's protein goal is also set too low. I'm one of them.
