Getting faster?

I completed C25K over the summer and LOVED it! However, I can now run for 30 minutes but I feel like I am super slow. I really don't want a bigger workout time commitment than 40 minutes. So, what can I do to get faster? I currently do 30DS on my nonrun days and am planning to try HIIT a couple days a week in hopes that it will help but if you have any advice at all I would greatly appreciate it!

In the Army to increase our running speed we'd mix things up. Try a fartlek run, or just do sprints one day (quarter mile, rest 1 min, quarter mile, rest 1 min, etc..) What helped me is every run day I also added lunges after the run, it burned good! Also, don't be afraid to cross train, you could ride a bike, use some gym machines, etc...

Measure your run. See if you can go just a little further in the same amount of time... do that a little bit every day... I think you will find that you can speed yourself up...

But, the real question is, do you need to speed things up? Maybe your body is very happy right where it is.

You can also run stairs, find big stair cases outside some where and go up and down to really build your leg muscles. You need a nice balance of long slower runs, shorter faster runs, and sprints. Also like Charlie said, time your runs and constantly push yourself to beat your old time.

Thank you all for the advice! I will keep working and mixing stuff up, hopefully I will make it happen!
