I am having surgery tomorrow, to remove my gall bladder. How long do I have to wait before I can start exercising again? At least start walking again? How long til I can do aerobics?

After mine I was back to walking the next day, but not without soreness of course. Biking and the elliptical took about 4 weeks. Weight lifting was 6 weeks.
Everyone is different and your mileage will vary. Just don't push yourself too hard.0 -
Good luck with your surgery! I know when I had out patient surgery last year they told me before being released when I could resume all activities from exercise, driving, even sex. They had me sign a form that I had received the info too so Im sure they will do the same with you.0

And, don't push it too fast. I was stupid after abdominal surgery years ago and felt good (and bored) after 5 weeks so started slow jogging even though they told me to wait at least 6 weeks. Ended up with some bad scar tissue that causes me problems to this day. A few extra weeks in the long run is just not worth a life of problems.0

I work as a nurse on a surgical floor and walking will be the same night as your surgery usually, Exercise will depend on your surgeon but usually will be after your follow up appointment which should be about 2-3 weeks then you can slowly increase your activity as you tolerate it. Hope that helps alittle!0

i had mine out 19 years ago... and after a week or so, i was brave and just walked to the end of my street... i was in tears by the time i got home.... pace yourself... small bits at a time... walking won't be comfortable for at least 2 weeks, so, don't even attempt to run or lift anything too heavy.0

WALK WALK WALK. Don't exercise until you have your followup appt but DO walk!0

Not sure for a gallbadder, bit I had bilateral inguinal hernia surgery a year ago. I was mowing the lawn a week later, but couldn't lift more than 40 pounds for about two months.0

I think the only one who should answer this question is your doctor/surgeon.0

Why are you even asking this here? Don't you think your healthcare providers will give you the best advice? Everybody is different, and heals differently.0

Thank you all so much for answering my question. I really appreciate it.
Yes, you're right. He did answer them, but I was more curious to hear from others going through or who has gone through what I am going through right now. You know, making a lifestyle change, eating healthy and exercising.. I always feel like my friends who have been there, and done that have better suggestions and hints than a dr who has never had the surgery or struggling with losing weight. Did that make sense?
He basically said to listen to my body, it knows better than anyone else, and to be stupid. :-)
BTW - I'm doing fine. Thanks again :-)0
