yes--however make sure that they have good mobility and cushion. cross trainers may sometimes be too firm and inhibit natural and good strides resulting in injuries.

Try them both out and make the decision for yourself.

I found cross trainers to be too "hard" for running. Running shoes have cushion and support FOR running - they are designed for it. Since running can be hard on your body - I would recommend making sure you use the correct shoes. :)

Are you running on tarmac or grass? If you're running on grass the cross may be fine in tarmac however they are probably too hard and may lead to injury.

Try them both for a small run and see which ones you feel more comfortable in.

I would advise against wearing cross trainers for running for any real distance. They are typically heavier than running shoes and are not designed with the same level of shock absorption. Believe it or not that slight difference in weight can make a huge difference. Having a pair of shoes designed to cushion against the repeated blows of running will save your joints.
