The Village Challenge
We have all heard the phrase “It takes a village …” and while the relevance for this proverb is in reference to raising children, I think it can be just as relevant and applicable to our weight-loss journey here on MFP. MFP is a community, and this community is no different than any other communities that have been brought together and have common interest and aspirations. Keeping that in mind I have decided to see if there is any interest in a new challenge (yes another one). The persons in this challenge will have vested interest in not only seeing their own goals achieved, but also all those within, “The Village.”
The challenge will obviously have a weight-loss component in it (measured by % lost), but will also focus on the overall theme that this is a lifestyle change. Each of us within the community contains a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will contribute to educating, caring, supporting, and motivating us.
As with any community, everyone will obviously be at different stages of their weight-loss journey, and their interests, desires, and availability will be different. I have noticed that all too often challenges, especially those with teams, it will begin strong but fizzle out, leaving teams fractured and often discouraged. I can understand both sides of this and so if you choose to join the challenge I will have a brief questionnaire for you to fill out and you can let me know how much or how little of an involvement you think you would like to do; I will then try to put you on matching teams with similar interests, goals, and desired involvement. However, please keep in mind that SOME involvement will be required each week, from each team, as to contribute to the welling being of the community.
Also, another aspect I am thinking about incorporating is to pair people up according to whether they eat their calories back or not. Although, I will have to think about that because I certainly don’t want to start a war; I just think it would be interesting to see if there is a difference! An experiment within a challenge … Oooooo how intriguing!
My hope is also to have this be a continuing challenge, as long as interest continues. However, there will be points where one aspect of the challenge has finished and all involved can choose to stop there or continue.
So here is the deal, if you are interested in something like this, let me know below, also if you are one of those super doper involved people and are interested in being a team captain send me a quick note with a brief introduction of yourself!
I thank you in advance for reading this long post, and my apologies for my poor writing skills, English was not my first language, not even my second! Eeeek.
*I will also do a re post of this tomorrow*

What will be the duration?
The overall challenge will be continuous, but each "phase" will be a month. At the end of the month people can choose to stay or go and then we can see which teams need new members. I really want it just to be everyone do it at your desired duration and pace, and you can choose your activity level within the group. Some people have only time to know their challenge for the week and check in once a week ..while other people seem to be very involved in the communities and are on here daily.0 -
