this had been weighing on my mind for a while now....i am definately a food addict. i would say im about 25 pounds over weight right now and have lost close to 50 so far...but i am addicted to food. my eating and exercise habits are usually extremes. sometimes im eating about 1200 cals a day and working out 3-4 hours or im eating wayyyyy too much (junk food twice a day kinda thing) and not exercising. i cant seem to eat normally like everyone else. im getting so frusterated i feel like giving up. is this what my life is gonna be like? constantly worrying about my weight and constantly 'falling off the wagon' and getting back on. is it all about self control and i just dont seem to have any? any advise would be appreciated. im not sure what to do anymore.

I definitely felt that way when I first started eating better. You will learn. Practice some self-control and just keep reminding yourself how MUCH you want it, WHY you want, and WHAT exactly you want. Do you want this donut right now and be hungry in 5 minutes and STILL have to run for 45 minutes to burn it off? Or do you want to eat a nice filling omelet that will give you energy and keep you happy for a good 2 hours and by creating good habits, know in several weeks or a couple months, you could be at your goal weight and healthy?
  • yeah i definately need to find things to motivate me..maybe pics of what i want to look like or something..thank you for your response!=)

Fellow food addict here. Only I rarely work out let alone work out for 3 or 4 hours. Regardless, I love my junk food! I normally work three and a half 13 to 14 hour days and on those days I find it so easy to stick with it and stay close to 1300 cals....the other three and a half are all about Little Debbies and margaritas. Granted, after 5 wks of MFP I am finding it easier to keep my munching at bay but still. It is tough. I don't have any answers. All I can say is....you aren't the only one!!!

Really think about addiction for a minute. An addict picks their addiction OVER EVERYTHING else in their life. It's more important than family, their job, their health, their friends etc.
If that's not the case, then you're not an addict. You're just undisciplined.
  • I am the same!! The best way to cope with this is allow yourself a small treat every now and then, but in moderation. Make a strict food and exercise plan for the week and if you stick to it, allow yourself to have what you've been craving! That said, try low fat or low calorie options of that particular food (Weightwatchers chocolate desserts and jellies etc are amazing craving foods!). Then you can not only satisfy your taste buds, but be healthy at the same time!!
Also make sure that if you are craving something, determine if its the crunch you desire, the taste (chocolate), the saltiness (chips) or the smoothness (like a milkshake). Once you have that sorted, you should be able to find a healthy alternative that gives you the same satisfaction as eating the 'bad' food! For instance, if I am craving something crunchy, I go for a carrot, or an apple or celery sticks. If I'm craving something juicy, grapes are by far the best choice ever!
    Make good choices!! :)

I notice the same thing. When I worked full time it was alot easier to lose weight. Now I work part time and have gained about 10 pounds from being home and snacking in front of the T.V
