Just because it has the word "salad" does not automatically mean healthy and low cal.

I work with a gal who gets a salad when she wants to eat "healthy." She also gets an extra packet of dressing! Doh!

It's the dressing that really gets you in trouble with some of those salads (especially my favorite-ceaser salad). I've started keeping packets of dijon mustard and a small bottle of really good balsamic vinegar in my desk drawer. That way, if I have to run out for lunch and get a salad, I can make my own dijon vineagrette.

vinegar, mustard, salt & pepper and a little water, sometimes I add a little splenda if I want it sweeter

Agreed, and I don't usually get salad at restaurants (I'm big on researching the menu ahead of time so I make informed decisions) but I still get so mad when the salads have more fat and calories the cheeseburger and fries!

A friend of mine who is trying to lose weight told me she ate unch at Olga's a while back, and she said "I was good and just got the entree greek salad"...I looked it up and it turns out she had chosen the worst possible thing on the menu. Every single thing on their menu, with the exception of maybe one sandwich and a dessert, had fewer fat and calories.

Caesar salad is NEVER good for you...that dressing is loaded with fatty crap.

This is so true, but man-o-man I LOVE them. This is one of my biggest weeknesses when eating out. I'll gladly order the low-cal entree and skip dessert in favor of the caesar salad.

Thanks...I have a 'dumbphone', but am actually getting a new smart one today, so I'll be taking full advantage of all those cool apps (adding this to my list)

I can't believe no one mentioned ordering the chili at Wendy's. It's pretty decent, and the small has 210 calories, 6 g fat, 21 g carbs, 117 grams protein and 6 grams of fiber, a large is only 100 calories more. Very satifying!
