Net Calories is
the total number of calories consumed (eaten) minus the total number of calories used (living and exercising)
if the number is positive you put on weight
if the number is negative you lose weight0 -
Net cals are the total calories minus calories burned through exercise, I think. You can look on your goal tab and it should explain it to you there.0

Net calories is easy.. It's what you ate for the day minus exercise. So lets say that you ate 1500 calories but then exercised and burnt 300.. you'd be left with 1200 net. In order to get back to that 1500 net, you'd have to eat those 300 calories.0

I am probably going to get in trouble for saying this, but this has been my personal experience. When I started mfp, I didn't eat back my calories. So, mfp wants you to set up your goals and stats and then by what you want to achieve it will give you a general calorie limit. When you exercise, you are asked to eat back those calories. Thus the amount you consume - the amount of calories burned = your net calories.
So to continue, I wanted to really accelerate my weight loss so I didn't eat back my calories. Unfortunately/fortunately, I was bed ridden for a few weeks (still sore so I am taking it easy), I found out that eating 1250 calories and no exercise (I was truly lying in bed) I was losing weight. This told me that my calorie number that mfp set was off. But now that I know, I can move forward in losing weight.
So, I know you didn't ask this but I am sure you will (everyone does eventually), you have to figure out what your calorie limit is and work from there. MFP does a great job but it isn't tailored to you and your body type (it was close enough for me and probably most here). I would really recommend you eat normally but log in everything you eat for a few weeks and keep track of your weight and other measurements. Once you have a baseline, (don't forget your activity level for cardio), you will have a better idea for mfp and you can really be well under way.
Good luck!0 -
The program here gives you a daily caloric goal. You eat, and log it taking away from the available calories. If you exercise and log it you now have calories added to your day (the program here assumes you will eat your exercise calories to keep your deficit at the right spot) You want your net to be your daily goal.
2000 calories goal 600 calories eaten no exercise I net 600 calories so far. When I add 200 calories worth of exercise my net drops to 400 until I eat.
Net should equal your daily goal before exercise.0 -
A lot has been posted on this question. I suggest using the Search function. It has saved me tons of time!0
