Hello Hello sooo I am satisfied with how my lower body workouts are going, but at the moment I am in the beginning stages of my INSANITY workout and I CAN'T DO A PUSH-UP! My upper body strength is crap, alwasy has been. Now I saw a woman post work-out tips to help strengthen your upper body to prepare it for push-ups, and I forgot to bump it and now Im lost. Can any Pros out there help me out?

When I was doing Insanity and had trouble with the push-ups, I modified them by doing them on my knees ("girl" push-ups). Then, slowly try to do one or two push-ups per workout, to build up. There's no shame in some girl push-ups, though. ;)

P.S. I'm definitely not a pro, but this is just my experience. Good luck! <3

google hundred pushup callenge. It will increase your pushup ability. it starts by having you take an inital test and then builds you up to being able to do 100 in a set. I am doing it right now with "girl" pushups but when I finish I'll go back and do "real" pushups.

This is a really great program! I'm doing it now (real push-ups) and have had to do the first week three times...but I've seen consistent results. In three weeks of just repeating the first week I've gotten from just 11 push-ups in one set to over 20. And as noted, you can do any modification (on knees, etc.) to build up your strength.
  • I read that in order to increase push up strength..we should really start off with a wall or a table so that our body is still straight. When you do a girly push up, you don't build the strength in your core...I have been testing this out and I definitely feel like doing push ups against my dresser are working better than when I did them on my knees..:-) My chest and abs feel like they are actually working!

In addition to doing "girl" push ups, work on holding a plank position. Push ups require core strength too!

I have this app, and it's awesome. :) I recommend it!
