New Here

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am new here. I realize that I need some accountability.
Back story: I've always struggled with my weight but I started learning about nutrition and health/exercise and I got in a good routine, lost fat, gained muscle and overall felt pretty good. The thing that has come back is the binging. This last week I've struggled so much and I'm not sure why. Does anyone else struggle with binges?
I am here to say I have a problem, lol... I am making a commitment to log my food daily and update my notes (how I am feeling, struggles, etc). I need to kick out the voice that's telling me "you've made that commitment before loser", lol...
Hopefully I can find some accountability here.
Thanks for listening (reading)

What I've heard is that if you try to force yourself into an untenable lifestyle, eventually you will fail. If you tell yourself you can't have something you love to eat, eventually you will fall off of the wagon. I've never done the traditional dieting, so I can't say for sure.
But one thing I have learned is that it can't all be about denying yourself the things you want, or forcing yourself to exercise even when you hate it. It has to be a long term lifestyle change, which means it has to be something you can live with day in and day out.
I've changed my diet, and I do exercise. But the way I do that is to find new ways to eat things I like, and to find new healthy foods that I enjoy. And I try to do workouts that don't burn me out.
Most especially, I indulge myself from time to time. But there's a couple of ways that I've found to go about that, that I've heard can prevent binging. First is giving yourself a pass every once in a while. For example, I just got off of vacation. There was a dessert that I rarely allow myself while I was away, and I gave myself a treat and let myself have a piece. Second is portion control. And third is something I have found that a lot of people overlook:
One of my favorite treats is ice cream, especially in the summer time. I will use this example since it is my particular achilles heel. I have found that there are so many healthier options for ice cream on the market these days. Low fat, no fat, low sugar, no sugar, frozen yogurt. And all of them are surprisingly tasty.
So whatever your particular weakness is, maybe you can find an option that isn't quite so damaging to your health regimen, and still allow yourself a bit of indulgence.
By the way, you're not a loser. Everyone struggles with this stuff. It's hard to change your life. You'll make it.0 -
Thanks for responding!
I don't deprive myself and I've learned also that "dieting" and restricting everything doesn't work so I don't do that. My binging issue I feel has nothing to do with food. I will eat crap that I don't necessarily care for when I'm in the zone. I think it may be a little deeper but I just wondered if anyone else suffered from that.
I am just getting use to the site so it seems that I need to find "friends" here and then it's more like FB on my home page, which I think I'll enjoy.
Thanks again!0 -
