Well, I am a recovered anorexic-turned-bulimic-compulsive exerciser and I am limiting myself to how many calories I can consume. This week, after my daily exercise, I have been having between 1000--1500 calories, but it's more or less on the lower end of the scale. I am taking 3 kinds of diet pills and should I say I have a lot of health issues? Most likely from the ED as doctors can't explain my problems. Anyway, my biggest fear is that this is not a healthy way to lose the bulimic weight. I just don't want to binge anymore and I am so stressed out, anyway, I have to force myself to eat lately. I belong to an eating disorder group and not sure if that's the right place for me since it seems like everyone on the board starves or binges. I'm probably not recovered, although for years I tricked myself into thinking I had a handle on this.

  • I think as long as you are eating enough calories of healthy foods, and not overexercising to the point of passing out/total exhaustion, you're okay. Sometimes we lose more than 2 lbs per week, sometimes not.

I'm going to friend you - I have some ED issues as well. :(

If your doctors cant figure out what is wrong with you THEN, go find another Doctor who CAN help you. You need a lot more help than we can give you here. Good luck to you, stay strong!!

Some weeks you'll lose more, some weeks less. Have you spoken to your nutritionist about this? I suspect that because of your ED, your body's more sensitive to dietary changes and you probably need a professional to look at it.

Good luck and get a second opinion! I'm sure if you're feeding your body appropriately, it will get better =]

I have a tendency to binge in response to emotional issues, but have never purged or been anorexic. just tracking calories and using exercise to keep under goal according to the MFP formula has really helped me get things under control - finally. You won't need diet pills.
  • Stop taking the diet pills, at least 3 different kinds of them but honestly stopping all of them will be better. You can only stay on them for so long and then as soon as you stop them you will gain weight back.

Secondly....take in AT LEAST 1200 calories a day. Even if you still to this number do not go below it, you're body needs this amount to get all the nutrients that you need. When you do eat, what are you eating?

Also, find a new physician. Never settle for ones that claim that it is all you or that they do not know what is wrong. This is your life we're talking about! Perhaps seek out a psychologist who is board certified to help treat eating disorders. Group sessions are not for everyone and maybe individual therapy would help you more. Depending on where you are located you may be able to find a wellness center where they have a physician AND nutritionist within the same office who can help you. It has been my experience that they may also be aware of psychologists to refer you too (if not have a close partnership with one).

I am not saying that alternative therapy is for everyone but I know for myself it has helped me far more than conventional medicine (and this from someone who has worked her entire adult life in conventional medicine offices) and I also love that they have a holistic approach verses an illness specific approach. They'll assist you with all aspects of recovery (mental, physicial, etc) verses just the physical.

    Good luck.
