Why do people say "bump?"

I must have been away too long, because I keep seeing "bump" written as one-word posts, and I'm usually pretty savvy about online lingo. Help a girl out here!

On this site people also Bump a thread so they can go back and read it later. By posting it gets put on your topic list. Kinda like a bookmark.0

Bump is used mainly for someone who is interested in the topic and doesn't have time at the moment to read it, so if they type bump it will show up on there profile so they can read it later0

Yeah, I know. I really do not like that term. lol, especially the first time I saw it. Many moons ago. I was really upset. :grumble: I asked why did you just bump my post.:mad: :laugh: lol...Now I know.0
