Too much protein?

I've been using MFP for about a week now and every single day I've gone OVER my protein goal... Is this just a guideline or something I really need to try to stay under? Am I "hurting myself' by consuming too much protein?

No way, protein will make you lean. Simply keep to your calorie goal and you'll be just fine.

MFP recommendations for protein are very low. you're fine. look to about 30% of cals coming from protein.

Protein is great for getting you leaner...and repairing your muscles after a hard workout. I try to eat MORE than the 30% recommended, but in doing that, you've got to be drinking LOTS of water as well....

Thanks! I'm doing great with my calories, but protein is the only thing turning red every day. Grrr. LOL

P.S. I'm showing my husband your signature pic when he gets home from work. He recently went from over 300lbs to about 210lbs and I'm sure he'd love to see your transformation! He wants to be a personal trainer as well :) Great job!

I recently upped my water intake a TON. I have a 20oz cup that I refill at least 8 times a day if not up to 10. I really think it's helping, plus it keeps me feeling full and not starving all day.

No problem at all my friend :-) You are not overdoing the protein intake, only if you are having more than 150, which I don't thing so :-)

once I started working out I *had* to start eating a lot more protein to make my muscle recovery better -- I average about 100grams a day now while weighing 180 - about 130 is lean body mass. Its not as much as body builders/serious weight lifters eat but waaay more than MFP thinks I should eat and I find it very effective.

And frankly, the people on my friends list that eat more in line wiht the MFP guidlines (200 grams of carbs and 55 grams of protein for me) seem to struggle a lot more with their loss.

So eat up! You're lucky you find it so easy, I struggle to eat extra protein as I don't care to eat that much meat in a day and non-meat sources aren't as protein rich.

    Chris,

Thank you for asking this! I did a search because I went over my protein totals too! :-)
I really don't think I consumed more than I should have, but whatever lol
