As you drop sizes, which clothes do you replace first?

I'm 20 pounds down with at least 80 pounds to go, but a lot of my clothes are getting to be too big. My question is which clothes I would be better off replacing first? I know that I will be in transition for a long time, and don't want to spend a ton of money on clothes that I know I will be replacing again soon, but I have 3 very different wardrobes. So its not a matter of just replacing a few things... Around the house, I wear mostly jeans and tee shirts. For work I have to wear scrubs, and I also have nicer pants, dresses, skirts, tops etc. for church and when I need to look nice... The question I have is what do you think is the most important to start replacing. My jeans are at least 1 size too big. So are my scrub pants. When I fill my pockets at work, they start creeping down. What do you do?

I replaced the shirts first and used a belt for the pants and then when that didn't work I got a pair of cheap pants since I know I still have more to loose
the thing right now I need to replace after loosing 97 lbs in my underwhere LOL they are huge now, but I am boycotting buying ANYTHING until I loose this last 10 lbs and hit my goal weight
oh and all those shirts I can't wear I know where as pajamas lol0 -
I typically take care of any clothes I need for work.
For me, it'd be:
work clothes,
church clothes
home/play clothes0 -
BRA! I hate wearing one that fits wrong, either too tight OR too loose.0

I had to replace pants first, as they were becoming dangerously loose. I'm proud of losing weight, but I really don't want to flash people.
I've been slowly replacing some shirts but I'm trying not to buy too mcuh because I don't plan to stay at this way for very long.

a pair or two of jeans
a pair of scrubs
start looking into 'shirt dresses' and wrap dresses
they are wonderful transitional wear and as you shrink
you can wear them a bit baggy and belt them0 -
You can buy a belt for pants. You can even belt shirts, which can be a cute look, or clip them in the back to pull them in a bit at the waist so they're not so baggy.
Personally, I've just replaced whatever stops working as it stops working. Some of my bigger pants still stay on fine, but some had to go away. If you're worried about spending a lot of money, check out thrift stores and clearance racks to get you through the transition sizes. Good luck!0 -
I'd start with work, based on your post-you don't want your pants falling down at work!!
I went (and still go) to thrift stores. got some great transition clothes that way. good thing too, because I only wore some of the pants for a few weeks.
Congrats on your hard work paying off!0 -
Undergarments. If those are comfortable, then everything else can wait. LOL
I think I would go for jeans though after that. I can't wait to buy new jeans. They are my fave piece of clothing!0 -
well, just my opinion, but I would say your work clothes first, and then your church clothes, and then your at home clothes... because you HAVE to wear that uniform at work, and yes it is nice to be dressed up at church but honestly at least you are there I am sure the Lord doesn't care if your clothes are too big or how much you spent on them, and when you are home big and baggy helps you stay motivated to keep losing those lbs cause you can see the results. Great work by the way!!! *Kate*0

I would replace work clothes first since it is important that you look presentable there and also dont want your hinny hanging out at work! LOL... For everything else why dont you try goodwill or the salvation army. You can get used clothes cheap, that way it will not drain your wallet during the transition. I would replace the at home clothes last. Who really cares that your pants are too big and that you dont need to unzip them to go to the bathroom while at home?
Great job by the way!0 -
work clothes first, that is the place where image can have the most impact. House clothes last; you can wear baggy stuff without anyone being the wiser.0

I replace pants first because I hate loose pants, big shirts aren't as big a deal.0
-
for your scrubs use safety pins...I would replace jeans first, then dresses, but from goodwill/garage sales until you hit goal or halfway...sweat pants and yoga pants are your friend right now!!!0

Buy what you can from thrift or consignment stores. I have bought mostly shirts so far a pair of shorts and capris. Most my work pants were too tight so now they are fitting loose. Look for sales. I got $150 worth of clothes for less then $50. A lot of stores are running sales now with end of summer back to school.
Another idea is get on the mailing list for clothing stores. I get great discount coupons in the mail.0 -
first off shop at a gently used clothing store, and buy just what you need for now. Get rid of too big clothes. As you loose each size, reward your self with a new not expensive outfit. You are doing great!0

Think about a double-duty wardrobe for a time. Don't replace any of your jeans and t shirts or, if you do, pick them up at a thrift shop. Buy khakis and nice knit blouses for church, and let them do double-duty on your days off. You can probably get away with wearing bigger scrubs tops for a while, but you'll probably have to buy the bottoms. But, only buy 2 pair and rotate them.
You're right to beware buying too much or too soon. I picked up a couple of things for fall on clearance and they're already too big.0 -
First thing is new pants and 2 tshirts if u are still losing weight, dont buy Way too much0

Undergarments. That was a MUST for me at first. I hated it when the underwire started poking my underarms or my underwear started looking bunchy. I got lucky and my sister lost a lot of weight and handed down a bunch of pants. Yesterday I finally broke down and spent a BUNCH of money on blouses and a couple of dresses. I probably should've gone to the thrift store but I just couldn't resist. I figure a large will fit me for a long time since I'm still chesty. But the best part is that I don't wear XL or XXL anymore! Good job on your loss! Best of luck throughout your journey :flowerforyou:0

LOL. I just realized that I'm getting ready to go out to replace some clothes. Didn't think of it right away.
Here's what I'm getting:
-a few tops / shirts (luckily, my work is pretty casual. i can wear dressy-casual things to work. which is great: i can wear them when i hangout with friends or when i'm at work.it.)
-some cami / tanks (as these tops get looser, I wanna be modest)
-jeans (if i see them and love them, but I can wait on these for now)0 -
Having clothes that fit properly can really help our confidence. I say replace them all. I love splurging at thrift stores. I shop there first then head to Ross for shoes, then Kohls for undergarments. I have many unique thrift store finds that are years old that I just love. Our local salvation army clears out their clothes 1x month at 1$ a piece for any item. It can make for a very fun day to take your time an browse. I hate wearing baggy pants that give you droopy drawers. Good luck and a big congrat on your success!0

Start checking out the re-sale shops in your area. At a nicer shop you can find some ,gently worn clothing ,for next to nothing. Be on the lookout for name brands too. I have found clothing with store tags still on them. There are a bunch of people out there that have money to burn.... Thank goodness because I couldn't afford to replace everything at full price ! :drinker:0

I think it is awesome that you are having this problem, can't wait to have it myself... but definately your clothes that you wear out of the house should be replaced first.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Keep up the good work0 -
Buy new undies/ bras.
Buy everything else you need from a thrift store until you are at your goal or close to it.0 -
I replace my work clothes first because it's important to me to look nice at work and I look so much slimmer in new clothes that fit rather than way too big ones. I try to buy things that can do double duty between work and the rest of my life, but that would be harder when you wear scrubs to work. I haven't done the thrift store thing. I went into one the other day and I just couldn't get past the smell of smoke and that was enough to put me off shopping there. I will probably try consignment stores when I am not in plus sizes anymore because they tend to have a little nicer things. However, I am a master sale and clearance shopper. I signed up for text programs from all the stores I shop at regularly. One sends me a coupon every other week for $10 off a $20 purchase, and with their sales, clearance, and coupon I have been able to get a few items for $10. I highly recommend using coupons.0
