Screwed up yesterday...What to do today?

Yesterday morning after eating a 345 calorie breakfast, I did an hour long Zumba class. Then, after eating a 474 calorie lunch, I took my son swimming. On the way home, he passed out. I was pretty exhausted too, so I laid down too to take a nap - this was at about 4:45. My 4-year-old rarely naps more than an hour when he does nap, so I figured we would be up just in time to start throwing dinner together. However, we BOTH slept until the sun rose this morning!
So, because of all of the activity from yesterday, my net calories were waaaaay into the negative, but I don't want this to negatively affect my weight loss. Do I ignore yesterday and start fresh today (which is the advice I generally see for those who over-indulged the day before), or do I need to eat a little extra today to compensate for how little I ate yesterday?

You may feel a bit lethargic today and even tomorrow but I personally wouldn't try and make upfor the lost calories, just continue like aregular day...it might even help weight loss? I certainly wouldn't suggest doing this all the time because it could ruin your metabolism however your body is very adaptable.

don't worry about yesterday's calorie deficit. doing that sometimes is no big deal. your body won't go into starvation mode (where it begins to store everything) for roughly 72 hours. so, if you get back to eating your calories before then, fine. there's a book, "Eat, Stop, Eat" that explains this. for me, I'm doing a weekend protein shake-only fast to jump start things. I will go back to my normal MFP calories tomorrow.0

New day start over. I would be to tempted to start to make deals with myself to eat more or less and use workouts as a bargaining chip.0

Fresh start and make sure you have protein several times through the day. It is required for repairing muscles from exercise and your body cannot store it0

Well, contrary to popular belief on these boards, a day of skipping a meal isn't going to kill you. There are people (me being one of them) who fast for a full 24-36 hours every week. It gives your digestive sytem a break, and studies have been done that show GREAT health benefits. So your skipping dinner probably did you some good.
Just start over today as you normally would! Don't eat back the calories you missed, just eat your normal amount.0 -
I look at it as a new day - start fresh! Although, on the days after a day where I have eaten way under my calories, I tend to be hungrier. I am trying to listen to my body more, I think it will let you know.0

start afresh ... I suffer from fibromyalgia and when the fatigue is really bad, someday's i will sleep almost 24 hours ... and barely wake up long enough to eat.... but i've learned to accept that my body needs rest more than it needs the food on these days xxxx0

one negative day is not going to hurt you. (several in a row will.) As the other posters have said, it is a new day, enjoy it as usual!0

Sounds like you both needed your sleep, lol! Don't worry about it. As you spent a good part of your day sleeping you probably burned fewer calories than you would have for the evening. One day isn't going to do any harm. Not many people eat in their sleep because they don't need the extra calories while sleeping. You did what your body wanted, which was sleeping rather than eating, so I doubt you have done any damage whatsoever. If your body had needed the calories I'm sure you would have woken up earlier feeling hungry :-)0

ah man...u two were truly flat out exalted! i've done that a many times and have never experienced any adverse affect from it. yesterday is gone and today is a new day! never try to make up for yesterday's caloric intake deficiency :noway: u'll be asking for trouble. if anything u may have experienced some stomach shrinkage, which is excellent for controlling ur hunger. being under a little bit is far better than going over a lot! :flowerforyou:

Thanks everyone! The scale definitely loved me this morning, but I fully expect it to be a partial temporary loss. I really appreciate the advice - back to business as usual!0
