Mixed emotions

This is an NSV (non scale victory) that I truly have mixed emotions about.....

all of my bathing suits are too big. I tried them on yesterday, and I am able to wear them, however, I wouldn't wear them out/in public for fear of them falling off or the "girls" showing off too much. I love this and I hate this, because I abhor shopping for bathing suits. ugh.

and one of these now too big bathing suits is da bomb-very cute, I LOVE it. oh well, out with the old and in with the new, eh?

I will have to psych myself up for this shopping trip. Fortunately, a bathing suit is not something I need very often, so it can wait.

Anyone else have mixed emotions during their journey? If so, about what?

If you like that bathing suit so much, maybe you can take it to a good tailor, if you know of one? I've never thought of such a thing, but it doesn't hurt to ask, a good one will be straight with you.

You should be happy about it =] stay positive, it is annoying but hey you've made progress! I honestly have no jeans that fit me anymore and it's frustrating =p but I do feel happy because I'm making progress. I just use a belt lol.

I'm in a constant state of crisis and I hate it. lol

I've always been very confident and secure, but once the fat started to come off... I feel so vulnerable. It's hard to explain and it makes no sense, but I understand where you're coming from.

There was this super cute and very cheap yellow polka dot bandeau bikini that I REALLY wanted. The top was in the size I needed, but the only bottoms they had was a Large. I haven't been a large in a while now! So yay, but i really wanted that bikini! boo.
  • I see where you are coming from, not from experience though. I live in a beach city so bathing suits are always in season. The thing that sucks is that they get pretty pricey. If the bottoms fit snuggish, try to get a new top.

I've had that happen. Bought clothes when I was gaining weight and never wore them. Waited too long and now they are too big! I have a situation with bathing suits as well. I have one that is really big but faded to wear in the hot tub. We usually go out at night so its ok. Another one that the straps keep falling (I think I need a shoestring to hold them up like when I was a kid!) and that one is ok once it gets wet and pulls down on the straps, but look out until its wet! The one that fits the best is a little big in the chest area and low cut as well. I'm always afraid of falling out of it! In one way, its a wonderful feeling and in another it feels like I wasted money on stuff I won't get much wear out of. I still have 2 suits that are tight and I'll get into next summer. The reason I have so many is that I bought them on sale when I was losing. Stopped losing a few years ago and gained again. Now I'm losing again and with MFP, I hope to not gain again!
  • I'm looking forward to having some clothes that are weirdly too big :-) Good work, btw. If you have any sewing skills at all- a bathing suit might not be a hard thing to tailor yourself. Or- throw a tank on overtop- just to be on the safe side.

I have the jeans problem too. Its so hard to find teh right pair of jeans!!! or it was, hopefully now with the weight loss it will be easy peasy.

I was thinking the same thing!

OMG did I ever. In May I spent a Saturday trying on my clothes an having my husband critique them as to keep, or bag lady big! It was heart wrenching as I got rid of 5 garbage bags of clothes! I love having/needing new clothes but don't want to spend too much as I don't want to stay this size either.

One suggestion I have for you is to find a good tailor. A really good one should be able to resize the suit if it's a simple design.

Good job and keep up the good work!
  • The achievement of losing weight is stressful! I'm taking a mini van load (10 boxes) full of clothes that no longer fit me to the charity in town tomorrow. From sizes 8-24! Keep up the great work and you will be buying a great suit next year that will show off all your assets! It is hard on the pocket book! But, so worth it!

I have accepted it, but I miss my boobs!

I keep having to retire favorite pieces of clothing that no longer fit. They used to be flattering on me but now that they're hanging off me not so much. I have the cutest denim skirt but I can pull it on and off over a pair of shorts without undoing the fasteners. :( Loved that skirt! However, I'll take the size 10 Levi's I can now squeeze into and start shopping for a new favorite skirt!

    Congrats on the bittersweet victory!

When I would find something that was comfy AND looked good, i'd buy it in every color. I have these shirts from lane bryant that I really loved. Now they just look baggy. When I realized that, I was kinda bummed.
