I can do this despite MS getting in the mix.

Hello Fellow newbies. Thought I would write down why I like this site. In 2009 life changed for me as I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It was a big big shock and for quite a while became a reason to comfort eat .The more pounds that go on the worse I feel and the fact I get fatigue has changed what I can do in terms of exercise. My partner has taken up cycling and has generally got the fitness bug. Of course this means that he uses many more calories and seems to have a huge allowance whereas I in comparisom had a measly amount. Having used this site for a couple of days and discovered the exercise section I am happy to discover that the slow walking, gardening, cooking and cleaning with moderate effort all add up and count as exercise calories. From feeling bereft and sorry for myself I am finding joy in doing little things that all add up. This has helped the mindset as I am no longer beaten by the fact I cannot run because I can still (thank goodness) walk slowly. The fact I am undertaking adjusted forms of exercise will hopefully enable me to keep mobile for as my physio says if you don't use it you lose it. The trick is not to aspire to be the hare but be happy to be the tortoise. The fable tells us the tortoise wins. Think I will become the Tenacious Tortoise for this journey. Hopefully I can lose the pounds and keep the mobility.

Good for you! While I don't have MS I have a crazy schedule that doesn't leave a lot of time for exercise. So I take full advantage of cooking and cleaning for my calories burned. In fact I'm sure my house and my work have never been cleaner!

Hi! That's great news, keep up the good work. I know how it feels being really restricted in the kinds of exercise I can do. Am rather new to being a wheelchair user and working up my arm strength so can get around in it all the time as walking isn't really an option anymore. Just eating right and getting in the bits of exercise that I can do. Good luck for the future.
  • I wish you the very best of luck. My mother was diagnosed with MS in 1990. It's been an incredibly long journey with a lot of ups and downs. You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to! Sometimes I wish she had, instead of giving up.

I do not have MS, but a very dear friend of mine does and I know it can be difficult on the body and soul. Just remember that every step counts and i started with baby steps. You will get used to baby steps and move up as your body and mind adjust. It is a journey not a race and in the end you are a winner no matter what. Best wishes on yours and I hope you get all you want from it. please feel free to friend me if you wish.
