Hi
I've been doing MFP for a bit over a week and it seems to be going great, but I am a little worried that my weight loss is a bit quick (5lbs in a week)
Any hints tips or suggestions would be welcome

^^ agree, that's a lot of water weight and stuff you lose when you first start cutting out a lot of the bad stuff. You're doing fine =]0

agree. most of it's water weight. my friend lost over 12lbs the first week! don't be concerned and congrats0

don't worry, it will slow down eventually (then you'll be annoyed because it takes so much longer! lol) If you drastically changed your diet, your system will kind of go through a natural detox and you'll lose a lot at the beginning.

Comes off real fast at first. First two weeks I lost like 14 pounds. Then it went to about 3 lbs a week. First month I lost like 25 lbs. After that it dropped to 1 a week.0

The simplified reason for fast loss at the start is before no doubt you were eating a lot of processed stuff, which is high in sodium, which makes you retain water. When you suddenly get healthier, you drastically cut your sodium intake, so all that excess water comes out.
Once that balances out, the weight loss will slow as the excess water is gone now.0
