Okay, so I've been trying to stick to healthy foods for a while now, but only really been doing it properly with MFP for a week, but I find generally if I give in once and have something I know I shouldnt (chocolate or pizza or coke or something) I cant help but write myself off for the rest of the day with a 'well I already had that one thing, may as well go all out' kind of attitude.

Yesterday I did this really badly, and went over my target by something like 700 calories which is huge, and then skipped the gym because I was just so full and bloated. And half of the things I ate I didn't even feel like in the first place, it was more just a matter of me knowing that I usually like those things, so I had them anyway.

HOW do you keep up the willpower to say 'NO, put that chocolate bar down, you're not even hungry!'?

I leave room in my day for 1 regular coke and sometimes 1 pc of chocolate. I have to have the coke, or I'm super hostile. Yaaaaay, caffeine addiction. The chocolate is a bonus, sort of. If I eat REALLY well all day, I allow myself 1 pc of 50 cal chocolate. I'm terrible at just not allowing myself to have things - if I do that, then ALL I want is pizza, Sonic, etc. Even though I didn't eat those things on a normal daily basis, if I say that I *can't* have them, they're all I want
  • My biggest suggestion is to enter it into MFP BEFORE you consume it!

I ate 1/2 a chocolate bar today, a low fat ice cream sandwich, a diet pop and a small bag of baked chips.... it's just about proper planning! ;)

Also - try to find alternatives to the things that you really like!
    - I buy baked chips now (POP Chips, Veggie Sticks, etc...) instead of regular. I also buy them in 100-130 calorie bags
    - I purchase skinny cow ice cream sandwiches that are only 140 calories or so, and delicious!
    - I buy plain milk chocolate (a filled chocolate bar doesn't fill my craving as well!) and refrigerate it so it doesn't last as long...

    GOOD LUCK! ;)
  • You're human - it's okay to splurge once a week. Just as long as you're not eating like this every day you'll be fine. Just get back on the treadmill the next day (it'll be rough) and drink lots of water. I always find my body reacting like it's hungover after a day of splurging. It's ok - just get back on track ASAP.

I want this so bad, that haven't really gone off track at all. But when PMS kicks in, I want me some chocolate badly!!! I am already over my goal today in calories, with no exercise so there is no room for anything. Normally if I feel like I want a little something I'll have it as long as it is in my calorie goal and I've exercised. But for tonight I am sipping ice water wishing it was chocolate ice cream! :blushing:

time my dear. someone said i wish i could bottle that crappy feeling so i know not to do it again. the days i binge eat which were practically everyday last week due to being a bit bummed about this weigh-tloss plateau, i ate crappy and felt that way as well. i too have the i ate that one bad thing might as well continue attitude. that's not the best attitude to have. i usually don't say that anything is off limits. having a coke or chocolate{not that bad actually} once in a while won't kill you not hurt your overall goal. most days I know how to work my not so healthy cravings in with my good eating habits. just count the calories and enjoy what you eat, and "give-in" once in a while to avoid that over-indulgence. hope this helps, i don't proofread, lol

So one thing I do is save up as many calories as possible during the day. During the day I tell myself that I could eat that but that I want an awesome dinner and a dessert afterward ( I have a weight watchers or skinny cow ice cream bar like every day after dinner). That way I feel like I get a treat at the end of day when I am good.

Don't give up, though. I had a ton of days in the beginning where I went over.

Try to drink a glass of water first and if you still feel like eating eat a little and then drink more water, see how that goes??

Always make sure you log what you ate. Sounds simple but if you really get annoyed having to log that chocolate bar etc. you will start to think about that feeling when you see the choc bar.

Another thing you can try is working out and earning your chocolate bar before you eat it. Really changes your perspective on how 'worthy' it is.

Thanks guys, logging it definitely helped - it was almost embarrassing admitting to myself how much I had. I'm definitely going to push myself a harder at gym tonight!
