My dad took me out to luch and I was trying to be good, so I ordered the cedar plank salmon with a side of steamed asparagus and a side salad with balsamic dressing. I even managed to skip their tasty rolls (I was TRYING to be good!)!!! Come to find out my lunch had 994 calories!!! :explode:

Here is the breakdown:
O'charleys - Cedar Planked Salmon 590 calories
Asparagus - 22 calories (i couldn't fint theirs even on their website...so i just put regular steamed asparagus...i'm sure theirs had more calories thay they sneaked in somehow  )
O'charley's - Balsamic Dressing 230 calories - for freakin' balsamic dressing!!!
O'charleys - House Salad-Side 152 calories
For a GRAND TOTAL OF 994 CALORIES!!! AHHHHHHH:explode:

So - now i am way over on my calories for the day - all because of O'-freakin-Charley's!!!

Anyone else ever think they were being awesomely good about their food choices, only to find out they might as well have ordered the fried food platter?

Seriously?! That many calories for freakin' salmon! Well, try to take comfort in knowing that you did make good decisions. Even if the calories sucked, it was healthier than a plate of fried food. Your digestive system will thank you as well.

    Wow!

I went to O'Charley's one time, but I looked at the calories ahead of time, and they actually have really good lower calorie options. However, you'd think the salmon would be healthier...
  • OH...I've been there...my mom took me and my kids to American Pie Pizza...I had the ceaser salad with no crutons and grilled chicken...I even had dressing put on the side so I could monitor how much I had...I felt so good about my choice I was flying high on the way home...entered it here...I bet my kids didn't eat as many calories put together...it came out to over 1000 calories!!! Talk about shooting someone right off their horse!!! BAMMMM!!!!! I now take my own dressing if we go out to dinner. The dressing alone was over 700 calories!!!

Happens anytime I don't cook my own food. Seems I can't trust anyone but myself. :ohwell:

This, in itself, says alot about how so many people can lose weight by merely not eating out anymore. It is so true!

Saves money and reduces calories to just make it at home! In our world, eating out should be a rare occasion, special treat only kinda thing, I think anyway.:ohwell:

We have come to rely so much on fast food and base our social lives on eating at restaurants. No wonder we are so overweight!

Oh, for sure! I have, on more than one occasion, opted for a vegetarian sandwich or chicken breast sandwich that sounded pretty healthy only to find out that it's smothered in cheese and on the heartiest bread ever created, racking up 75 to 100% of my daily calories (even without the mayo). It's frustrating, but take it as a lesson learned. For me, it was Panera that was my first calorie shock; maybe that's O'Charley's for you.

One of my biggest adjustments has been "translating" restaurant menus into what I would have at home. I sometimes forget that, when I'm out, cheese really means cheese (not the low-fat option at my house), sour cream is NOT fat free, bread is not "45 calories and delightful", and "chicken" can be a consolidated, reconstituted patty of... well... the "nugget" portions and is NOT a boneless, skinless breast.

    Here's to next time!

It really does make me think twice about eating out! I'm okay with going over on calories every once in a while...but I'd prefer to KNOW I am doing it! Eat a piece of cake, have a small fry, some icecream...It's just such a bummer when it sneaks up on you like that! No more last minute going out to eat for me!

We go to a 'healthy' restaurant once a month or so. Each dinner/app is 475 cals and desert is 275.

Of course by the time you get thru you have 1/2 and app, dinner and a desert for 950 cals!

So the next time I had the cedar plank salmon. It was yummy...just out fo curiosity I looked it up....you got it almost 3000 grams of sodium!! whyyyyyy?

I make salmon and it is yummy....and has NO sodium cuz I use herbs instead!!

I always look up menus ahead of time before I go because it is surprising how much unhealthy goodness gets snuck in. My favorite place to go "on the fly" without being able to research is Applebees because of their weightwatchers menu. I don't do weightwatchers but the calories are listed right there on the menu.

I love OCharleys myself! I love love love their rolls and spicy cheese wedges too! I always get them whenever I go and I can't help myself. That is why when I am eating healthy I don't go out especially there. I acutally ate there Thursday! And I had a sirloin, salad with double ranch and baked potato with double butter so no it wasn't a "good" day. I know those places have healthy choices but I would rather stay home so I won't indulge in their bad choices! Oh and then I had a mixed drink to top it off!
