Resting Heart Rate

Just curious how long most people have been working out before seeing an improvement in their resting heart rate. Mine is 58 (which from what I understand isn't that bad). Just a random fitness question that I was pondering today while on a road trip. I've been working out pretty regularly for about a year and a half. Not sure what it was when I started but I'm sure it's improved some.

    I don't know how old you are but a resting HR of 58 is excellent for men of pretty much any age. I can't comment on how fast exercise makes it drop as I had to be on medication to bring mine down. I am no longer on it and my resting HR is in the high 50s right now due to the exercise I do. I have no idea how long it took to get there though but before it was over 100.

    I actually just checked mine again the last couple days to see if it has changed any.. last time I did it - it was in the 40's (I do it as soon as I wake up - as long as I wake up naturally and without an alarm).

    Thursday: 42

    Friday: 42

    Saturday: 44


    From what I've read that is pretty low, but it is obviously normal for me. Since it has been like this consistently for the last few months.

    I'm not sure what a normal resting hr is suppose to be, I have dieted most of my life and always exercised. I really didn't know what my resting hr was untill about three months ago when I bought a hrm. MIne is about 70 which I think is pretty good. My daughter recently started working out and using my hrm, her resting hr was about 90 and after two weeks of working out and a 5 lb weight loss it went down to around 82.

    Wow!!! I think maybe I'm not getting still enough to see what my actuall resting heart rate is, cause everybody's seems lower than mine. LoL I stick on my Hrm and head out the door and it is about 70!! Will actuall have to sit for a minute and see what it is.

    Mine used to be in the 80s-90s before I started working out regularly. At my last physical, which was about 3 weeks ago, it was 48. That was actually kind of low. That was the pulse they got while taking my BP, which was 111/60. They tried again with the pulse ox, then my HR was 52. Can't believe it got so low!:)

    For an adult, a normal resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats a minute.


    If you're a well trained athlete it can be lower. A low resting heart rate is usually not a bad thing.

    After taking nearly 18 months off from exercise, I've been back at for pretty much 12 weeks now. I took mine a couple weeks ago while grocery shopping, and it was in the mid 40's. I haven't taken it first thing in the morning, but I can only imagine it is probably around 40 or hi 30's. I was in the low-to-mid 60's even when I didn't work out regularly prior to the past 3 months. I've always been athletic, and have never had cholesterol or heart issues.

    Thanks everybody! My resting heart rate as of a few minutes ago was 52. Last time I had my blood pressure checked (less than a month ago) it was 120/70. I think it's all definitely healthy. I was just curious if anyone saw any significant improvements after a longer term exercise regiment. Looks like everyone is doing great!
