My hubby is diabetic....but he's also competetive ESPECIALLY with me (I'm the same way with him lol). Well, I challenged him to a weightloss competition! What was I thinking.!! Who ever looses has to treat the winner to a dinner out at a fancy resturant! Well....the weightloss challenge is 50lbs. I need help! Well, I gave up soda and tea...I drink water with crystal light. I was thinking of giving up meat and being vegatarian. I had almost went the entire day yesterday without meat and I didn't miss it. I need as many tips as I can get that will help me loose 50lbs before my hubby does. He had been on a plataeu for a while and that's when he quit trying. I'm not exactly trying to trick him into loosing weight exactly, may be just some motivation. I'm worried about him and his blood sugar is a little out of control. (It had been so bad that he could have gone into a coma)

I learned a while ago never to bet on a number with my husband. We either go by percentages or we make another goal. Right now I have one going with my mom where we keep track of everyday we exercise for at least 20 minutes. On Oct. first whoever has the most days the other on has to buy them a pair of shoes. You and your husband should set a challenge like that, that isn't affected by things you can't control, like the number on the scale.

    Best wishes
I hope your husband is able to gain control over his blood sugars.
  • I say make your workout a bit harder and dont give up meat but eat less red meat and more fish and chicken. And of course stay consistant

Taking a quick peek at your food diary have you thought about cutting back on salt? I know it's really hard to do. When I started this journey I gave up diet soda, alcohol, and limited salt and sugar (diabetic also). It may help. The less processed food the better to reduce salt. I've learned that the hard way.

Maybe switch up your exercise routine?

If you have progress and you both are losing, then you are doing well and helping both of you in the long run.

Who cares who wins? Would it be so bad if you had to treat your hubby to dinner? It sounds to me you are prolonging your husband's life, as well as the quality of his life. You are also improving your life. Sounds like you are both winning.

I wouldn't mind if he wins.....just trying to keep the spirit of competition. I REALLY want him to loose weight because I really think his diabetes came on because of his weight.

Oh, and the salt thing? I try to not eat so much of it, but then I eat something sneaky like salad dressing that has loads of it! Trying to learn how to how to cut back on sodium! Good thing I don't salt my food lol!

You are right! Salt is sneaky but you can do it. Make your own salad dressing. If you have alot of salads, make your own croutons - I do and they are delicious! I would never go back.

Check it out - I've lost over 100 lbs. and have gone from taking insulin 4x a day to none at all and I don't take diabetic meds anymore. My last appointment with the doctor was Thursday and he said my A1C levels have been lowered over a consistent period of time that he would not "classify" me as a diabetic any longer. I, personally, always will consider myself a diabetic and continue to test myself to keep me in check.

Feel free to send me a friend request if your hubby needs some motivation or to learn more about my journey.
