I haven't been able to walk into a New York & Co. store in about 6 years. I can't fit into their clothes, so I would just wander on by and go to Lane Bryant where I would purchase clothes that looked like tents in bright, bold patterns. I would hate them. I'd cry in the dressing room.

Even though I've only lost 6 lbs, I can feel that my clothes are loosening. Pants that I would have to suck my stomach in to zip are now easily going up without that big "WOOOSH" and hold I was accustomed to. My friend suggested I stop in there, just to "look." So I found some things and went into the dressing room. I've been teetering between an 18 and a 20 for the last several years. I hate those numbers. I see red when I look at the size. I pulled on a pair of 16 skinny jeans... AND THEY FIT!! Yes, they have some stretch to them, but I've broken through the 18 stigma!! I even bought a pair of dress pants (no give) in a 16 from Van Heussen (all outlet shopping). =) Even though the scale is slowly teetering between two numbers, I can feel myself getting stronger and slimmer. Even my bathing suit was pretty loose on me during tubing yesterday.

Next year ... I'll be in those 10's!! And I can't wait!!

this is actually one of the things that terrifies me about weight loss. i have had to shop at specialty stores like lane bryant my entire life. i have been in the plus size range since i was maybe 13 or 14. i LOVE fashion! i LOVE to shop for clothes! i have always been angry about not being able to buy pretty fashionable clothes in my size. now that i am on a path that will lead me toward being able to do that i am a bit terrified of the overwhelming options i have never had before. i am scared a won't like going shopping for clothes anymore. that would be so sad!

Congrats!! As a lover of shopping myself, I know there's nothing better than going into a changing room and loving what you see. It's definitely motivation to keep moving forward - and trust me, the shopping will only get more and more fun ;)

iysys, don't be scared. Just look it at this way: it's as if you've only been coloring with only three crayons your entire life. One day, a friend of yours brings over one of those monstrous boxes with tons of colors, like Razzle Dazzle and aquamarine. You've got a whole new world of color opened up to you! You can be cautious and just try out one or two - or you can dive right in! Take your time and do what feels right for you, but in the end, you're going to love getting out there and trying new things. I promise ;)

Thank you so much for the support. It means a ton to me!

It's hard, because my two closest girlfriends are also on the heavier side. And when I post things on FB or talk to them about it or say "Oh, I can't eat that right now - I'm near my limit," they get a little weird on me. They are happy for my weight loss, but they do not take theirs seriously.

My biggest disappointment was when I made my communion. I couldn't fit into a pretty, normal sized dress. My grandmother and mom and to scour all of western NJ and eastern PA to find a store that carried "pretty plus" sizes. I hate looking at myself as a kid. Unfortunately, I can't change the past, but I can change the future. =)
  • thats fantastic! nothing tastes as good as beng thinner feels!!
