Question about logging workout dvds

I usually just walk with my baby, but I'm in a challenge and wanted something a little extra to do... so this morning I did an hour of a workout dvd. So i went to log it and decided to list it under "circuit training, general" I though this is what most people use to log workout dvds. I'm questioning myself bc it is saying i burned over 600 cal? really? I did get a good workout and I'm still sore, but that seems aweful high to me. Any advice please? Thanks a bunch :)

I often wonder the same thing! I do Zumba and don't think I burn 600-700 calories. I guess the only way to know for sure is to monitor your heart rate and then do this formula...

I think it really depends on the dvd. If there's weights used or not and what type of exercise. I used calestenics when I did insanity dvds and circuit training for p90x and yoga when I did those videos. I think a heart rate monitor is the most effective but a good one is expensive.

I have the same problem. I log 1/2 the calories it advises. It seems more realistic. I'd rather log too few calories in exercise than too many!

i used to log it that way too, but i dont think its very accurate. the best way would be to get some kind of hrm or other device for counting calories burned. the majority of my workouts are exercise dvd's and when i actually logged them from a device it was totally different than what MFP said. which dvd did you do?

Good plan  That's what I'll do then instead of spending money I don't have on monitors and such

I used to put those under aerobics, general. Now I have an HRM so I have a better estimate of the calories burned.
