High weight plateau

I have been dieting "off and on" since January. I fell off the wagon from May through the end of July and thankfully, did not gain all of my weight back, but did gain enough that it was upsetting. I have been back on my plan again- exercising daily buring anywhere from 500-900 calories a day. I eat a low carb diet weighing heavily on vegatables and protein. My calorie intake is anywhere between 1550- 1900 calories a day and carbs under 40g a day.

Here's my question, I seem to plateau at this 181 lb mark. I am 5'10" so I am overly large for my height, but to me, being still 30 lbs from my goal, it is frustrating that I stall at such a high number.

Has anyone else had this happen? I always figured when you really had a lot to lose that it would come off consistently until you goet 10-15 lbs from your goal.

What has your experience been?

I'm 5'4 and 160lbs... Which is a pretty high weight for my height and I seem to have stalled. I'm trying to up my calories and net my calorie goal for two weeks to see if it makes a difference.

what does your exercise consist of?

Try adding in more strength training or starting strength training if you don't currently do any.

How much fat do you eat? If you go low carb make up the difference by increasing your fat intake. I actually use coconut oil for dipping my meat in. And back off the excessive cardio - the body just sees it as stress and proceeds to protect itself from that stress. Definitely do some strength training. (look up Chronic Cardio on marksdailyapple.com)

I went low carb back at the end of April. I stopped eating food from a box. I average 70% of my calories from fat. 10% of my calories are from carbs and no grains, legumes, milk, flour or sugar (sugar is an ongoing battle). My carbs come from fibrous veggies and lots of dark leafy greens. Some berries on occasion. Since then I have dropped 9lbs of body fat - with less exercise than I was doing before. And this was at a healthy weight - 120.4lbs (5'2"). My IBS, hiatal hernia, heartburn, eczema, anxiety are ALL GONE. My energy levels are through the roof. I sleep better. And I completely lost my belly. My natural waist went from 32" to 26". I don't have to count calories, log or weight food, worry about portion control. I eat when I'm hungry and I don't have to eat every few hours because what I eat actually fills me up for hours. Protein and fat are filling, carbs are not.

I follow Primal Blueprint (Mark Sasson)

(Typical breakfast: 3 whole cage-free eggs and 4 pieces of Hormel Natural Uncured Bacon. Lunch: Big salad with more meat and unlimited dressing - usually an oil based one. Dinner: more meat and veggies sauteed in bacon fat or butter or coconut oil.)

I would probably be able to see my abs more if it wasn't for my candy problem (sweet/sour gummy savers are a problem).

Thanks everyone. No I am not doing any strength training- I am so muscular by nature, so most of the time, I build muscle naturally through exercise, but I will take your advice and start adding it in. My exercise is usually jogging anywhere from 2-5 miles a day (6 days), and playing squash every other day about 40 minutes.

Once in a while I trade out running for a step class or some kind of aerobic class...
