I have been thinking about plateaus a lot recently, mostly because I am in my 6th week of said problem.

It has been a challenge to continue in my healthy mindset when I am no longer seeing results. I have referenced Banks threads he left behind. They have been very helpful and encouraging.

What have you done to help you get through a plateau?

My challenge is to not give up.

If anyone is interested we can start a weekly "What to try to break out of the Plateau" thread?

Just an idea!!:drinker:

I am on a plateau right now myself. I knew it would happen as I got closer to my goal. I am rational and realistic enough to know it is normal and I am not doing anything wrong exactly.

The body just needs to take a break sometimes and it has worked hard for me over the last 15 months to lose a lot of weight. So hey, if it needs a break to lose the last few lbs, then so be it.

However, one thing that worked for me in the past where I avoided plateaus (I would have a maintain week here or there but nothing that lasted long), was to just change something up. Whether it be the calories eaten on a certain day or the foods I was eating or the exercise I was doing.

With exercise, even changing machines or levels or resistance can make a difference because it get's different muscles working or just get's the muscles working harder suddenly which seems to help bump us out of a plateau.

Or with food, sometimes really paying attention to every single thing you are eating, even more than usual. Sometimes we get a little "relaxed" with things and before we know it, the weight-loss stops and you aren't really even sure why. Those little bites here and there can add up if you do it a lot.

I was on one for two months not too long ago. :explode:  I changed things around and it didn't help at all. I just kept at it and now I am back to losing again. I think the most important thing is to keep with it.
It is extremely frustrating to be working hard and not see any losses but not seeing any gains kept me going.

(and this week I lost 3 pounds...the first time that has happened since starting this!!!)

Just keep on keeping on honey bunny!

Funny....I finally changed my goal to 1/2 pound a week and started eating 1450 cals a day...after 1200 that is like binging for goodness sake! Then add in the exercise! Whew!

    I lost 2 pounds....:noway: :grumble:

So all those comments about eating your exercise cals, or that you might need more calories are true. Who woulda thunk it??

I am going to stick with the 1400 or so and eat 1/2 my exercise cals. I just cant eat 1900 calories a nite, it will discourage me from slipping in Ms Sansone and walking 4 fat....uh fast miles!!

question....some say that you loose the weight that you put on last., first. How true is that? Anyone?

I finally get a couple of lbs under what I weighed in high school ( BTW---a VERY long time ago) so now I guess my body is trying to loose the weight that has been on my body for a very very long time.

could this be the cause of my plateau??? Just wondering?

i though that was a very good question too.. is it harder to loose fat that youve had for a very long time ?? at my lowest weight that i could ever remember...

btw.. congrats on breaking that plateau...

im still loosing but vveerryyy sllloowwllyyy... i am trying.. as off friday to eat more.. but goodness its hard !! .. ive been adding things here and there. but i feel like im always stuffed.. ho and im tempted to use my extra calories for empty calories and i definitly dont want to do that.. so i allow myself a wee threat once in a while .. but i mostly find myself eating peanut butter by the spoonfull !!!!!!!
