Life of shoes?

I use my shoes at least 4 times a week running, elliptical, weights, spin, heavy duty exercising at least an hour a day. How long do shoes usually last under those conditions??
Or am I just waiting until they start to make my feet hurt?

For running, I think the average life is 200-300 miles. But if you're using them for other activities, it's going to be shorter. I keep my running shoes separate from the shoes I use for other stuff, because the footbed padding is more important for high-impact running than it is for the exercise bike or weightlifting.0

I was told that it is normal to replace your tennis shoes after about 300-400 miles. Six months was what I was told I needed to do and I walk 20 miles a week. I start to notice break down of the shoes at the four month mark. I recently got a new pair of New Balance for walking and they should last a little longer due to the way this shoe is made compared to my other pair. Also, I was told that it's best to not wear them every day - get a second pair to switch off with.0

Yay! More shoe people!! And you're all right.
Typical life for a shoe varies from person to person due to weight, stride etc however the average person is about every 200-400 miles give or take or about every 6-8 mts. I do recommend different shoes for running than you would use for your other activities, try to stagger your workouts so that you run/walk on day 1, gym day 2.... that way you only need 1 pair of runners and 1 pair of cross trainers.

I usually go about 500 miles in a pair and I only use them for my race walking. If you are wearing them all day they will break down faster.0

Usually about 6-8 months but make sure you watch for major wear on the bottoms or breakdown on the inside/loss of cushioning0

I can get a bit over 400 miles per pair, after than my shins start to bug me (without fail). I run out two pairs at once (rotate daily), so I'm usually swapping in a new pair when the other pair is ~ 200 miles.
My running log tracks the miles per shoe. I only use my running shoes for running. For the gym, walking or elliptical I used shoes that have already been retired from running.0
