New to dieting and traditional exercising

Hello! A few weeks ago my wife and I started a challenge to lose weight. She took the weight watchers route with a neighbor, but I didn't want to pay for anything so I found MFP. I love how easy it is to use, I'm already ahead of schedule thanks to its easy entry system.
I've never worked out in a gym, but we have joined one last month. Lots of work but it is rewarding to see progress already. Anyways, just saying hi.

Good for you. The best workout is the one you actually do.
Going to the gym requires a whole lot of stuff and also physical exertion while you are there.
Looking at the long term a good think would be to {go, do, shower and dress, leave and continue
your day} really regularly this month. Don't workout hard and get sore and feel the burn so much
as just become comfortable with managing getting to the gym, managing washing and preparing
you gym clothes, managing the time out of the day it costs you. I think all these other logistical thing
end more people's attempts and gym-work more than the gym-work itself.
Take this month just to get into the routine and have it become more comfortable and natural.
Consistency always works over enough time, so removing those logistical hiccups and allowing
oneself to be consistent is a guaranteed way of changing your life and making progress.
I'm happy you found us here.....and be gentle on your WW wife. There are many paths to
a better lifestyle one of the only commonalities is consistency. If she sticks with it she
will probably make progress too. It could be win-win rather than one wins and one loses.0 -
Thanks Chris, yes the WW path is working quiet well for her. We are not actually competing against each other, just ourselves and our individuals goals which has been a great approach so far. We've had a bit of fun trying new foods as well.
As for the gym, I agree.. I'm still trying ease into that routine - after the first day I felt like I got hit by 10 buses which prevented me from doing much else for 3 days! Thanks for the tips and notes0
